Hi all!

I like a bit of techno babble and speculative musings, but enough is enough ;) So today a friend came over and we toured a bit of Darmstadt. I used only some M42 lenses as I felt like taking a break from too much high-tech.

I mainly used my Jupiter 85/2.0 and my Soligor/Tokina 200/2.8. It was fun and we took some decent shots. When my friend looked through my DS's viewfinder with the attached 200/2.8, she was almost shocked. Well, I guess a 350D viewfinder and Sigma 18-50 3.5-5.6 don't really measure up :D

So, in the reply, you'll find some of my shots. Most or all taken with the 200/2.8. One thing I noticed: Man, those old lenses (can) have some serious CA, but they handle so nicely and the images have a certain texture(?). Hope you like some.

Cheers
Jens

The last two are interesting with the nice DOF. I would like to have some more M42 lenses but I have no idea where to start. That big ball thing was kind of neat, what was it? Before you have a chance to reply this will be on page 10. LOL

Thanks Irek! :)

Rupert, thanks for the comments :)

For me, they are like a desert: Not really necessary, but nice to have. So I fill the slots I have no K-mount lenses for.

Hm, it's a decoration on a concrete "railing" wall. Does that answer your question? I'm afraid I don't have an overview handy.

First page: 35min. Insane.

Hi Jens!

After reading all the replies in the "Bandwidth Challenge" thread, I went looking for your picture post. Glad I found it!

These are lovely and very relaxing. I especially like #2, #4, and #5 with #2 being my favorite. The way the focus on the ball and then the diminishing focus on the other balls and lamps going down and out of the picture makes me want to follow the path to a more tranquil spot! The theme of Earth tones in all of the pictures helps the relaxing feeling, the greens, browns, greys, etc. Glad you had a great time out with your friend touring Darmstadt! Hope it gave you the much needed break!

I like 'Line Up' and the titles the best.

All those good M42 lenses and you only use them when you're sick of the techno-babble? Sounds like you need an intervention.

Guten Tag, Jens!

Nice pictures and beautiful city, been there. Unfortunately, I did not have my Pentax back then. I have visited Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary site exploring their wonderful Canaan garden.

Thank you for the pictures!

You know, since I have been using old prime lenses most of my photo life I really enjoy them better than the new AF, DAF zoom lenses. It slows me down and I get back into the study, compose, focus, recompose, stop down, stop up, I used to do with my old Spotmatic and then Me Super and LX. Sometimes you need to stop and smell the roses.

Hi Jens!

1, 3 and 4 are my favourites, the other do don't really work as well for me. I like your play with the shallow DOF!

I had completely missed this thread. The K10D posts are fun enough, but they do make other subjects move off the first page ever so fast...

Very Nice Jens....and give me Pentax and old glass any day over C@non.
Cheers.

Never judge a photo by the person who has taken it.
Never judge a person by the photo they have taken.

"Line Up" and "Heavy Go Round" are my favourites here, Jens!

I like the first of the trunks in "Line Up" going the other way, the "broken" pattern is interesting - and at the same time find the regularity of the "Heavy Go Round" well seen and beautifully captured. Go figure ... ;-)

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks all, I didn't expect such a comeback of this thread :)

I didn't want to clogg the forum with replying to each in a seperate message. So here the comments are, bundled:

@Tracy

Glad you like them :) The tranquil spot is actually just to the right of the wall with the balls. It's where the trees are and people are playing Boccia there. Very nice :)

@Sean

Thanks :) It seems my titles are now more impressive than my images, huh? ;) Well, yes, those M42 lenses, they are lovely, but the ease of my KAF zooms has spoilt me. I think I should just take a break more often ;)

@Lance
Thanks! Not much hope of besting your Sydney Panos, though ;)

@Betsy
Glad you like them both. There's no real AAlternative ;)

@George
Thanks very much, especially as I love your style!

@Wim

Thanks for your rating, seems everyone's taste is a bit different. For example, I'm (pleasantly) surprised that quite a few like "Heavy Go Round", which I thought was a bit of an obvious pattern picture.

@Scott

Thanks to you, too :) Yes, that old glass is nice, and somehow it looks and feels "right" on the Pentax.

@Phil

Thanks :) And thanks for the explanation. I must admit, I never really noticed the first tree going the other way. I noticed the number on it and thought that the pattern looks somewhat "nice" :)

@Ray

Thanks :) Happy you liked Darmstadt. It has some lovely places, but strangely, even many of its citizens don't really like it. I guess they'd need a bit old, fast glass to appreciate it more. Hope you'll be posting more again in the next time :)

@Steve

"Sometimes you need to stop and smell the roses." Exactly my feelings. I don't dislike the modern lenses and use them often, but sometimes it's nice (necessary?) to slow down and soak in.

@Andrew
Thank you :)

Ok, where's the next K10D speculation thread? ;)

Cheers

Thanks :) And thanks for the explanation.
You're welcome!

I'm a bit (not enough ...) influenced by a guide for commenting constructive on pictures and try to force myself to say more then "nice" if I can manage :-) Here the link - unfortunately in German only, but maybe of interest to our German speaking members:

I hope the author will translate his guide to English eventually.
