GR-D versus Lx1 versus R4

We may have to ask dpreview to start 3 more new forum lines.

"GRD" (link dedicated to this camera: everybody is welcome to write, post pictures, or not post pictures, in general this is the place for all fun things about this unique camera)

"GRD-Tech Talk only" (you can only post if you back up your comments with pictures, this is for all the pixel peepers out there, no "text only" posts)

"Unpolite Talk" (this is where all those can meet --and stay there-- who like to talk about things photographic in an unpolite or nasty manner...here you can hang out with trolls, exchange ideas with flamers, attackers and bashers and have a great time doing what you do)...

Ok, everybody let's drop it. Let's go back to talking about the GRD.

Denis

I have always taken it the right way - if you can't handle some criticism then don't make comment - there is no doubt a lively debate is good for clearing cobwebs.

I will have to learn to use one word when ten is more than enough :)

But it might be hard to change the spots on this old Leopard. So you will have to put up with this old windbag with a bee in his bonnet and just shout a bit when I when I get too wordy.

At the moment it seems to be 8=ok and 2=shut up (smile)

By the way - I have taken some more photographs of that clock face and when I get around to suitably edited and formulating some sensible "proofs" I will post them up so that Ray will be happy - just as long as I am not yelled at for being a lousy photographer - they are not meant to be works of art - just demonstating cameras working at their very limits in poor conditions.

My premise is that the quality left at the point of failure might demonstate something that is less apparent in poor but less demanding situations.

Sorry if I innocently started a bit of a row here - I think I clothed my remarks with enough caveats to say that I was not "testing" the cameras but merely something that I had noticed when the weather was too awful to be taking photographs. It was a test of sorts but nothing that was intended to sway anyone else's judgement. (re-read my original post - if you have the time :)

I always knew that the cameras were different tools for different jobs and the only surprise was how well (relatively) the R4 performed.

Perhaps Ray was a little too hasty in condemning the lack of imaging but I thought I had clearly stated that I was not testing the cameras in a way that would "prove" what I was saying from an advisory point of view - I said it was not a "rigorous" test and by that I meant "not scientific" - there were too many variables and the cameras were not directly comparable other than in size.

I can imagine that Ray was a bit frustrated by not seeing the images I was referring to and I will make amends shortly - however I will take a little care when I do so.

I have seen some of Ray's images on this thread and they are quite remarkable and wortht he trouble of finding and viewing.

My main wish is to give others the benefit of what I have found - it is not meant to be handed down from above as definitive judgements but more "this is my opinion on something - what do you think?" (politely). If you disagree then let us all know - the world will be so much a richer place if opinions can be shared and be turned into "knowledge".

That is what the word "opininion"
means.
Oh, so you are also a spelling critic. Since it was 6:30 am when I was typing, spelling wasn't the first thing on my list, but it you would like, you are welcome to be the forum spell check and help all of us out.
You must have a better dictionary than me. I can't seem to find
that word in either my Oxford or Websters.

By the way, I was just expressing my 'opinion', too. Succinctly.
As we said, opinions are allowed or maybe in your case aloud.

No, I didn't express my opinion aloud at all. Just normal volume. Funny though, how people will criticize you for name calling, or for posting sarcastic or terse messages, and then do the same as a reply. But I guess you think that is ok, because you didn't start it? Very hypocritical.

By the way, seeing as you appointed me, you mean 'spell checker' or better still, 'spelling checker' I think.

But this is just too tiresome. I have been waiting for a little humor, but that has been a fruitless wait. I have a lot of photography to do. See you in another discussion, maybe.

By the way. Do you do any photography?

By the way. Do you do any photography?
Today is LG's birthday and she probably has better things to do than make silly arguments with someone who is determined to get the last word in.

She actually does a lot of photography after discovering the very nice R4 and later what R4 macro can do.

Regards........... Guy

I love the way this little forum needs other people to speak up for them. What a fragile little lot you are. Maybe you could buy her a small dictionary for her birthday, from me? I would be happy to pay for it.

And I do agree with you on one point, LG does make silly arguments.

And as far as getting the last word in, I actually signed off on this thread last post, but here you are, keeping it going. Do you think I don't have the right to respond to personal insults? Do you think I don't have the right to respond to you?

I started this off by replying to the original OP, another who doesn't seem to be allowed to speak for himself. Sure, my response was a little terse, because all Tom ever seems to do is make long-winded posts aimed at convincing people he has made the correct camera decision. And I'm not the only one to have noted that. But all his little friends chime in, leaping to his defense, and then make personal insults at me.

Which, by the way, I couldn't care less about, but would like them to be a little funnier, or more entertaining. So if you think all I'm after the last word, why do you keep it going? I thought it had died last night, but you and the birthday person seem to be after a Ricoh thread record.

Guy, say something intelligent in response to my reply to Tom, or at least say something funny, or say nothing.

But here, this is my last post on this thread. So you can respond, and you can have your all-important last word.

One last little point from me, Guy. I have made several posts of images here on this Ricoh forum, by way of thanking people for their input in making a selection, and also to help somebody who wanted to see 21mm shots. And as far as I can remember, you did not make one response to any of those threads, and neither did the birthday person. Nor most of the people who criticized me here. And please don't think I care that you didn't, it is just an interesting observation, well, to me at least.

So what do all you critics do, troll around the forums looking to play policeman? Your opinions might carry a little more weight with me if you reacted to the positive posts as well.

I did respond to the images you posted, yet I agree with almost everyone else here about your attitude problem. I just don't enjoy fighting and see no point in "feeding" people with such an attitude.

Prog.

Sorry I didn't seem to be responding in order to defend myself but this little sub-thread found a life of its own and rattled off without any need for my input - I did respond elsewhere on this thread but it generated little heat.

I am appreciative if my friends spoke up for me but this was not because they were previously my friends but I think it was more a natural reaction to what seemed to be a bad-mannered outburst.

I am big enough to wear that on my shoulders unaided but I am appreciative that what I might ramble on about is enjoyed by some just as much as it might be hogwash to others. If I thought that I was completely out of order with everyone then I might pack up my bag of Ricoh marbles and go off and bother someone else.

The fact is that venting spleen seems to be counter-productive and what is cast to the wind often blows back on oneself.

I am sorry that I appear to be infatuated by my cameras - I could spend a fair bit of time venting on the Nikon 5700 that I bought (useless camera) but I might be regarded as a troll. As it is I have become a Ricoh happy camper. I am presuming that on the Ricoh forum I am not going to very popular boosting my Canon 5D or my Pansonic LC1. On the Ricoh forum my main like is the GR-D and the R4 only came because of my GR-D and I am happy to share my opinions and even though they make not be factual enough for some I make no pretense of dressing up opinion as fact.

So keep posting up images and I will ramble on a bit - there is no need to "listen" if you don't like them.

As mom always said, sticks and stones.

no, I just don't have anything else to do but hang on photography boards. If you would like to see it you can search my threads and find the link yourself.

Please do us all on the Ricoh boards a favor, go back to whatever board you came from. Oh, and feel free to spell check all you want. Saves me the effort.

Thanks very much, but I think I'll decide which forum I post on. I do have a GRD, so I do feel entitled to comment here, and post pictures here. I also wonder what makes you think your rudeness and bad manners and mine are any different?
