Hmmm ... the UK has banned ALL hand baggage on flights now.

Anyone else not going to send their precious cameras in checked baggage? Think I had better buy a point and shoot for my coming hols ... grrrr

You could check the baby in before the flight, should fit nice in any luggage, might want a hardside though

The next plot involved smuggling a device in the rectum. A mandatory strip-search for all passengers before boarding?

Why not solve the problem at the root cause instead of trying to bandaid the symptoms, Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair?

Apparently, it's a temporary measure. And until the measure is lifted, terrorists will be forced to check their bombs into the hold.

The British public won't be too happy with this. It will be interesting to see how long the measure lasts. Probably not much longer than the 'genius' who decided this sounded like a good fun idea.

Know whats being carried on or not.

It's not like they've arrested people as the result of an undercover operation that involved a plot to blow up aircraft.

Carry on items should be carried in a clear plastic bag.

Travel documents, passport, prescription pills, baby milk, spectacles (not in a case) are the main items allowed.

NO electronic devices, laptops, cameras, lenses at all.

You are not allowed any extra items in your pockets.

For those who don't like links:

Passengers may take through the airport security search point, in a single (ideally transparent) plastic carrier bag, only the following items. Nothing may be carried in pockets:

pocket size wallets and pocket size purses plus contents (for example money, credit cards, identity cards etc (not handbags));

travel documents essential for the journey (for example passports and travel tickets);

prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight (eg diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic.
spectacles and sunglasses, without cases.
contact lens holders, without bottles of solution.

for those travelling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight (nappies, wipes, creams and nappy disposal bags).

female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed (eg tampons, pads, towels and wipes).
tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs
keys (but no electrical key fobs)

I've read the link to the DFT page.... those are pretty restrictive! Contact lenses but NO solutions! Adult must TASTE the baby's food!!!

Wonder what all the traveling photogs will do without their laptops - forget the camera. With no key fobs allowed, I'd assume CF or SD cards in pockets would be a no-no too... so better FEDEX those storage devices to yourself before you leave or enter the UK...

UK - you've got problems. What with surveys showing that 1/4 of your muslim population believing the 7/7 bombings were the right thing to do (I believe that was printed in the Daily Mail - sorry don't have a link) it'd be easy to become very pessimistic about the UK.

No, that approach is ass-backwards and is exactly why those two countries are being targetted in the first place. Instead, they ought to reflect on why they are so hated and read up a little on history and culture and learn from it.
Turn large parts of the world into glowing sand? Good idea Jared.

You are assuming that common sense is common.

There are also additional checks at the departure gate if you are flying to the USA.

Items from "duty free" will be checked, it looks like no liquids will be allowed.
