He seems to have tons of D1x's for sale for 4200, USA warranty, He
says
he deals with a big wholesaler who supplies him with the cameras.
He is a Squaredeal member, but their liability is only for $250.
Will your
credit card cover you in case of fraud when using it through paypal?
am i th only one that thinks it is fishy. this guy's feedback indicates he sold a d1 for $3995, and bought a cd on ebay scams. that cd must be great.

He does not have a lot of history, but what there is seems positive. While it depends on your Visa bank, your Visa card should back you up should there be a problem. I really do not know how he sells new D1s as they don't make them anymore.

Trent

I got sucked in by one of these D1 auctions and it just sounded too good to be true. A brand new, "factory sealed" D1 with a full USA warranty for $2400. As far as I have heard brand-new-in-the-box D1's have been as rare as hens teeth ever since the price drop a few months ago. He's selling a D1 on Amazon Auctions and claims unequivocally that the D1 is from an Authorized Nikon Dealer and comes with a full USA warranty. He currently is selling 11 D1's, 6 D1H's and 9 D1X's for $4200, $3200 and $2400 respectively.

So I called him.

He claims that he works for a wholesaler of sorts who buys "large quantities" of products and then pays a 10% commission to guys like him to sell (in this case) the cameras online. He says he doesn't even ship them himself but that his parent company does the shipping. His friend was doing this and had good luck at it so he started doing it himself a week or two ago.

He sounds authentic, as to the company he's selling for, who knows. The conversation went something like this:
I asked, "Is this multi-level or something?"
"I don't know what that is." he replied.
"You know, like Amway?", I persisted.

His response seemed genuine, "Sorry, I've never heard of Amway. I'm only 25 years old so I don't know a lot of things."

I told him thanks but that it's really hard to believe that if I send him $2400 I'll actually get a new D1 with full warranty. He said that that's understandable, but that he'll have lots of positive feedback after this batch is sold so I should just wait and see.

Hi, All.

By now, as you may have guessed, I have decided not to chase these D1's with my money. But my curiosity got the better of me and I called "Tim" at eBay "networksolutions55" and tried to get more information.

What was his supplier's address? He couldn't find it. He used to have a phone number, but nobody ever answered it. They are supposed to have a "customer service line" installed Real Soon Now. His supplier's name is "Blue Chip Electronics" in Los Angeles. But now the only way he has access to them is "mail order" ...but he couldn't find the address to give it to me. Hmmm...interesting. He says he has a bank account number he uses to wire them money--but the bank is in New York.

"The first people should get their cameras on 12/27, so we'll just have to see what happens then." mused Tim.

I, for one, am on pins and needles.-- --Steve

I checked superpages.com and there isn't a Blue Chip Electronics in Los Angeles. A search on nikonusa.com with the 90* zip codes doesn't show Blue Chip as an authorized dealer and a google search yields no results too...

I wrote the guy at NetSolutions asking whether he accepts credit cards directly or only through PayPal? He said that he currently does not but will in 10 days. Has anyone ever ordered and received the goods?

I sent e-mail to the people who won the bidding to ask if they had received their cameras, how the transaction went, etc. FWIW, I have received no reply to any of my messages.

It is very likely that you will not receive a reply from the winning bidders.

How these scams work is that the "seller" and "buyers" are either the same person or are in cahoots with each other. No goods or services are actually exchanged in the deal. They do have to pay Ebay the auction fee at the end but that's just the cost of running a scam.

After the auctions are over, you will notice a lot of positive feedback. But if you buy from them based on that, you'll be out of your money.

Well, that's just what I suspect. But it's your hard earned money and you can spend it as you please.

You could ask the seller, but I would imagine you would have to pay the escrow service. If he agreed it would be the safest way to tarnsact the deal.

Trent
What about going threw an escrow service to make sure you you don't
get completely scammed?

I e-mailed and he said he couldn't do escrow because "I cannot use escrow because i am just a seller for a large wholesale company..." . Sounds a bit sketchy to me. On the positive side he has been very quick to respond to any e-mails and the positive feedback on his profile seems to be legit. He gave me the same thing about more good feeback coming from customers who should get their cameras on the 27/28th. I think I'll wait and see.

Now to decide... D1h or good old D1....--just a kid with a camera http://rett.org

Well, I also got attracted by this auction. I first sent him an email asking if it was gray market and if it comes with everything included. The answer was quite promptly : 'I don't have gray market stuff in my store.' So I clicked on 'Buy now' (it is a cheap price). I got a meaasge from ebay that I won and etc, and that I can pay using paypal. Now, as I'm from Europe, I need a verification code from paypal which comes in my next VISA bill (next month). So, I mailed him with this information and he asked to send him a cashiers check payable to his company (Netsolutions). I didn't like that, so I asked him if I can do a money transfer (then I'll have some proof that he received money from me) and asked him for his bank details which I need to perform the transaction. He said he didn't know and will contact me on Monday. It's now Wednesday (ok, it's Christmas) but I think it's suspicious if someone does not know his bank account (ok, I don't know mine by hart, but have it in my wallet). I think that this transaction will end where it is now as I start to have a fishy feeling about this. Unless, someone on the forum really received something from this guy. I'm not saying he's dishonest, but I just don't trust it anymore...

No offense, Andrew, but every few weeks there's yet another thread on this forum about EBAY and some deal that sounds too good to be true.

Well, guess what. It probably is too good to be true.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!!!

He seems to have tons of D1x's for sale for 4200, USA warranty, He
says
he deals with a big wholesaler who supplies him with the cameras.
He is a Squaredeal member, but their liability is only for $250.
Will your
credit card cover you in case of fraud when using it through paypal?

Latest update,

No "legitimate buyers have said they have receive a camera and
several have been given a runaround...this is definitely a blatant scam.
