Good or bad ? You decide...

Yes, that's Lizzie. I put down photography 20 years ago, but having children and the sudden improvements in digital convinced me to try it again. I always wanted to be a medium/large format landscape photographer, but somehow only did well with misty cityscapes and portraits. Now I'm just trying to capture those fleeting expressions on the babies faces. (Lizzie is 15 months old, her sister just 10 days old) .

After seeing some of the pre-capture results from E-100 owners, and seeing the prices in Germany, I ordered one. Generally it's a bad thing to buy equipment in the hope of improving (instead of just putting in the work), but I think recent technical innovations justify the experiment. And it's a lot less money (and weight) than Pentax 6x7 kit.

Your work and the work of a few others in these forums (Jaja - are you listening?) are a real inspiration for me to try to photograph other subjects than the children.

Thanks again,

Matt
This is about the best I can do now, but the subject helps alot....

Thanks for the encouragement, and happy shooting,

Cloud,

I like your images. They deserve to be qualified as artwork and you to be titled as an Artist but it is not photography (some of it are photographs). Let's say you would take that original digital image project it on a canvas, trace it and fill with paint to make it express whatever you were inspired with. That process cannot be qualified as photography. The same applies to your present technique (process). You use different tools as digital camera, computer, and Photoshop. The poster artists are using photography for their art. That does not make a poster artist to a photographer and a poster .is not a photograph. It does not make difference how the poster was created. The poster art is the poster art. There are many different forms of art and the photography just one of them.

PS

I like your dramatic images and do not agree with one of the forumer... MANY would like to have the images you have created displayed in the place they live, work, relax.

Andy,

I agree, his images are excellent (at least at my level of understanding)…and I am glad that I had the chance to see them. I also like seeing paintings and sculptures. I am just saying that many of these excellent pieces of art are departed from the photography. They are art but not the art of photography.
Leo
Whether you call it photography or art, your images are not "good
or bad" ...I would call them excellent!

Well, in other words you call me lier. OK, here is the link for ORIGINAL picture with exif metadata : http://www.kiwwi.sk/fws/imeco/PA290016.JPG

Now do following steps:
1. Open it in Photoshop or similar editor (I use Paint Shop Pro)
2. Apply 0,45 Gamma Correction
3. Retouch small overburned parts of the first (closest) leaf
4. Sign it "Picasso" and enjoy your work.

If you think, this is not photography, it's your problem, not mine.

Cloud,

That is not what I said and keep in mind I am not an artist or a good photographer. We are discussing here not judging. I also said that what I said is not applied to all your images but some. I know several artists who use a photo image as a starting point and the end result is an oil painting (for example). By its form an oil panted image cannot be mistaken for a photo. It is easy. May be any image created by using photo tools is a photo.

I have heard that the statement: "those who are not with us are against us" is not a applicable to a discussion.

PS I do like your images, photos or whatever they are. I would never be able to create anything like this.

Cloud, I have never called you a lier.

If your work isn't photography, then neither is the work of Elliot Porter. Even if enormous changes were made in Photoshop, it wouldn't change that. Look at the amount of darkroom work Ansel Adams did to get his final results.

If insulting you will get us the "negatives" for your pictures, then you can expect a lot of insults from this forum. :-)

Cloud,

I would like to apologize. I look through your photographs and really like the them as probably every one who have seen them. They are excellent photography. I have rechecked my message because felt that there is something wrong with it and it was. I have posted the first my message for you but it was addressed to you by mistake, my mistake. I have put it in a wrong thread. This message was not for you. It was intended for

discussion but somehow I have posted it for you. I have logged-in to the Forum during a very short break in my work I rushed and selected the wrong thread, yours.I apologize again.

With all my respect to you and your art,
Leo

Hi Leo

I should apologize too. My reply was not appropriate to your post. I was upset at that moment because of some other problems. Forget it.

Kind regards
Cloud

Thank you for capturing? creating? shooting? and sharing these beautiful images with us.

altho it makes me feel like I should sell my gear as well - or perhaps I should just get out there and keep trying and learning... yes - I shall. Daunting but inspiring, I suppose but again - Thank you.

Fantastic pictures Cloud. How did you do the one of the cat and the umbrellas. That is a wonderful picture. I would like to learn how to use the umbrellas in taking pictures. Can you tell me or direct me to a site that explains a little bit about them. Thanks Char

I have visited cats exhibition, and in the corner of the hall there was a professional photographer with all his equipment, including umbrellas. I did a couple of shots from behind. You see him shooting on the bottom of the picture. Sorry, I don't know anything else about those umbrellas...

The story helps to the photo. It does look that you have a story to tell and the professional man only to show a cat.
