Hey, folks...

Was playing with my G2 and had my first "modeling session" with my daughter. I can already see that she's going to be the best photo subject I've ever had.

All photos were taken in P-mode with the 420EX Flash bounced off the ceiling. Saturation, Sharpness, and Contrast at Normal, and cropped in Photoshop. Superfine mode JPGs.

Cute kid! I ran one of your pics through Photopaint's autolevels and it made a huge improvement in the color balance and contrast. I'd recommend you try the equivalent in your image editor, unless you like the sepia-like tone.

I do like the whites in the auto-leveled version. I would have said "looks fine to me" before seeing the auto-leveled version. It's funny how your eyes adapt to the scene.

Hi Bryan

Wonderful photos!!!

Thanks for sharing your personal pictures and your effort in
comparing G2 to G1.

BTW, why is that noise on skin? Is it shot at G2 ISO-400?

I do prefer the richness of the warmer tone to the white version, but THANKS!

I see it too. It's sort of parchment-like, like a very light paper
texture has been applied.
Oh, I see it. Yes, that's the exema my baby has... like little tiny white pimples. We have to rub lotion on her for that. Amazing the G2 can capture that kind of detail.

Hi Bryan

Please let me say that it may not be true as I see that noise one skin
and less sharpness in all G2 portraits I saw until now.

Why am I like Bob Williams now? (No offence)

Here is a G1 sample

Oh, I get it. You're G1 user who now thinks that it does better than the G2. Well, these photos are not perfectly sharp because I had to prefocus on my daughter who was constantly moving. And I prefocused on her hair... at f2.5, there's not much room for error.l

If I had a baby laying on a blanket, I might have experienced the same kind of sharpness you did. :)

Bryan

Would you Please post one sharp photo of G2 which has no sharpness or white flakes problems.

You posts are very useful and helped us more than Phil's reviews.

G2's exposure, colors (no magenta, purple casting) is clearly superior to G1.

I hope G2 did not add any new problems like these less-sharpness and white flakes.

I could have tried on my own but I am waiting for Ritz camera to get G2's in stock.

Thanks in advance

Hey Bryan, have you tried using the flash in Av mode with the G2? Remember, it now adjust the shutter to account for the flash, unlike the G1. So you could set an aperture of F4 or whatever and the flash should simply increase it's power. I haven't actually tried it myself yet because most of my shooting has been outside so far (since it's been so nice out).

I've given Bob Williams a hard time before, but never anything as harsh as comparing him to you. Bob's been friendly lately, pick on someone else.

Very nice colored and metered shot bryan. Cute daughter too. And I'm sure she'll hate those shots in about 12 or 13 years. G

Don't we all just hate those cute shots of us naked as babies

OK, let's be clear. I've HAD a G1 side-by-side with this thing. If the G2 were less sharp, I'd know it by now, don't you think? And white flakes? Heck, I've magnified my photos like 12 times and haven't seen them. But if you're concerned, please don't buy the camera until you look at maybe 1000 more shots to be sure. :)

Bryan

wonderful and VERY consistant quality...

Travis, I didn't do that in this case, because I'm not in the habit of being able to do it! :)

Being so used to the G1 which didn't have the capability, I never think of this until it's too late, darn it. Actually, the prefocus didn't do too badly, and the very last shot is crystal-sharp. I kinda like the softness.
