Someone has started a “Wish List” petition for Pentax, and everyone who is interested in future Pentax DSLR offerings are strongly encouraged to participate. It only takes a couple of minutes to fill out. I feel that it is important to show Pentax what its user community wants, and this is one easy way to do it. The hope is that if there are enough responses for particular features, that when the results are sent to Pentax, Pentax will include these features in their future development plans.

Here is the address:

So if you have an opinion on what you want in a future Pentax DSLR, please take a minute to fill out this survey, especially if there is a particular feature that Pentax is not offering that you want.

Thanks.

Derek

Thanks for the effort. Hope it leads somewhere.
Filled this one out. Tell, importance of 3 is the highest, right?

It's a good effort, but I am certain that it will be ignored by the Kamikaze Camera Company (formerly known as Pentax)

They seem hell-bent on self destruction, and are very unlikely to let any well meaning outside intervention stand in their way.

Other manufacturers release higher spec upgrade paths - Pentax dumb their one dslr down even further.

Europe is noted as being the most profitable region for dslr sales - so Pentax take a decision not to sell their tarted up Ds to Europeans.

Other manufacturers release high quality lenses intended for use with 'Pro' spec bodies - Pentax end production of well established favourites and concentrate on cheap 'n' nasty low end (but highly priced) glass - while third party manufacurers, doubtless sniffing financial ruin on the prevailing breeze, start to end their suport for Pentax fittings.

Pentax don't make any of their non-dslr cameras - preffering to re-badge Vivitars and similar rubbish. Surely, even the most die-hard Pentax fan can see that the end cannot be far away?

Oh, no. Not again...

I guess, Epical, this is why I am using Ds and am happy with it - it is just such a shitty camera from such a shitty company.
Maybe I am retarded?

Sorry Dude - if you want a squabble you'll have to pick on someone else - I haven't got the time to indulge your childiishness

My final word - I have two Pentax dslr's and an expensive assortment of lenses & anciliary equipment, and if I want to comment about Pentax I will - and if you don't like it you can go and ....................have a nice cup of tea.

Bye

As you gave your opinion I think other are allowed to give theirs. I think it's unfair to get all stroppy about other people "biting" back and then for you in turn to bite back saying the things you said.

As for Pentax eventually going bottoms up, well we'll have to wait and see. I still think they offer a great range of DSLRs with some really top quality glass and plenty of second hand glass to back it up. They are bound to move along and develop things further but they have always been known for their conservatism, I think the next two years or so will be "make or break" years to see if Pentax will develop higher end DSLRs and survive in what is a fairly cutthroat industry. There is nothing stopping you from jumping ship, whether you think it's sinking or not.

As for Pentax not selling their DS2 in Europe, well there could be many reasons, maybe import duties are too high and if they concentrate on the US and Asia Pacific markets they get higher returns, who knows.

Epical,

I can empathize with your view, and many agree with your feeling on the matter. I know that there is a high level of frustration with the Pentax from their customers/users, to say the least. However, I think that it’s great that someone has channeled that frustration into positive action, and it would be terrific if everyone could support that effort.

(Ok, I admit. I got a good laugh out of that, if only it wasn't so close to the truth.)

I think maybe you should put a field in for currency for the retail price question. Just an idea as some people might say Asia Pacific for region and that could mean any number of currencies. Alternatively people coudl just put the currency in front of the price, e.g. AU$2000, as in 2000 Australian Dollars, etc.

Thanks for putting the effort in... I filled-in the form: it's a bit like sticking a 'message in a bottle' but who knows, maybe Pentax will take some notice... flap flap oink, flap fap oink (a 'flying pig' noise)

The only field I don't agree with is the 'price prepared to pay' as this is somewhat dependent on the market at the time. DSLRs have come-down in price quite a lot in the last six months and who is to say they won't drop more in the next six? What might seem a fair price now for a 'DS-level' camera might be unreasonable if you find that Nikon are selling the D200 for that much when the camera is finally released

I don't trust Pentax's flexibility/ability to react on prices and so I think we 'shouldn't give them ideas' in this matter. We should just tell them what we want and let them fix the price when it comes to market!

As far as I know there are no import duties on DSLRs in the UK. Since the UK is in the EU it is probably the same in most EU countries as well since you can use one country as duty free a gateway to the others.

OK, OK, no offense intended. Everybody needs to vent sometimes. Me too. I guess I just I meant to say: "Always look at the bright side of life".
I'll go have my nice cup of tea now. Seriously.

And non taken - besides, I was being unnecessarily confrontational so I apologise too.

too. I guess I just I meant to say: "Always look at the bright side

You're right, of course. On the scale of life's woes, the survival of Pentax is pretty near the bottom of things to worry about.
I'll go have my nice cup of tea now. Seriously.
That's the traditional British panacea for all ills and troubles. Homeless, desperate and dying? - have a nice cup of tea! Just heard that nuclear war has been declared and that we all have a few minutes left to live? - no problem!, there's still time left for a quick cup of tea......

I think they have put their eggs in the MF basket for high end stuff, as they have for a few years. If the digital MF offering is not up to par they really will be up a gum tree, that's the one where it's at.
Regards
Chris

Nice idea and thanks for organizing this petition.
I´ve filled it out.
