It's interesting to note that in his Latest News article dated 21
May 01, the Nikon CP995 has PIM capability. I wonder how Nikon
handles the original images files / conversion, provides the
software, and, more important, whether people who bought the camera
are aware of the PIM / conversion issue. I skimmed through Phil's
CP995 review but couldn't find anything on PIM.
It would be interesting to see a PIM print compared to print
converted to sRGB and, even, the latter enhanced in PhotoShop.
I myself find that I normally work with 10% of the pictures I take
so a conversion would not be that big a deal.
I spend as little time as possible in the digital darkroom,
prefering to spend the time upfront to minimize time spent
post-processing. Therefore, the color space conversion is a bit of
an issue for me. Could those who don't see this as an issue (or
anyone actually) tell me how much overhead the color space
conversion would incur? Could this be done as a batch process, or
would I have to convert/save each image one at a time? What is the
likelihood that future releases of this camera would allow this
selection to take place before taking the shot?
