I am curious if anyone here has sent their minolta camera back to minolta for repair and how long it took to get it back. I am having a bit of a problem with my 7i displaying the "err" message and then shutting down when I am using the continious focus for extended periods of time. I thought I should have it checked out but not at the cost of being without a camera for several weeks.

Guess I should have said continental US. I sometimes forget that the Internet is worldwide.

KM USA is quoting 3-4 weeks. I currently have my A1 there. It's the beginning of the fourth week.

Jerry, I would appreciate you letting me know when you get it back. Maybe it is best to live with the problem which may be just an overheating condition that I had heard about with this line of cameras and can't be fixed. I just have to be carefull that I don't hold down the button too long before I take a picture when using continious focus.

Replacing the exposure mode knob, which fell off, on my A-2 took about a month, but they wrote me saying that they had to send to Japan for the part (must be an uncommon fix) for the part. All was well when it came back.

I think that's what they tell you. It didn't take quite that long (with the exception of transit time) for my repairs but long enough. Unfortunately my camera went in three times and has since been replaced. This one has definite vignetting on the left side, but otherwise looks so much better than my old one. After all I've been through, I'm probably just going to keep it and crop or edit the darn pics. Good luck, Dan.

I have exactly the same problem with my 7Hi, plus the EVF is failing. Minolta Canada quoted me 4 weeks, but I haven't taken it in yet.

I was thinking this might be a good excuse to buy the D7 (smiles), but Minolta just delayed its arrival to some time December. Maybe I should buy a disposable camera for Christmas?

As long as it doesn't get any worse, I can live with it as long as I am aware of the artifact and don't stress things with the autofocus. I only use it in rapidly changings events. Usually I use it for macro photography of flowers and insects. Great camera for this purpose.

I can live without the autofocus. But half the time the EVF fails in the upright position, which is how I like to use it for all those wonderful macros. So as long as I'm getting the EVF fixed, I'll get the AF done at the same time.

My real problem is that I hadn't realized how much I've come to enjoy this camera. Doing without it for a month is going to be stressful.

My A1, which was 10 months old, had an increasing number of hot pixels, visible in any low light photo over 1 second shutter speed, several of which were also visible on the LCD.

For the repair (under warranty), I took it to the UPS store on Sept 28 (in Las Vegas). It arrived at the NJ dock on Sept 30. It was logged in to the repair facility on Oct. 1 ( a Friday).

I know this was the date they tested it, because they sent me a form, dated that day, showing that repairs - to manufacturers specifications - would be made under warranty. If it had been out of warranty, the form would have shown estimated repair costs, and I would have needed to return the form to authorize repairs, and include my credit card number for billing.

The camera repairs were initiated on Monday, Oct. 4. According to the repair ticket, they exchanged the LCD Display, the View Finder, and the CCD. UPS got the camera on October 7, and I had it back in Las Vegas on October 11.

So it spent less than a week at the New Jersey facility, and two weeks total, using 3 day shipping. But they must have had all the parts they needed on hand.

Yes, I don't want to part with mine either, especially during the summer months. Please let me know how you make out witih the continious autofocus and if anything changes once you get it back.
