Phoned Henrys in Newmarket and they are expecting delivery early
next week. They expect in excess of 100 so if you're lower than
that the chances are good.

Trying to get hold of Aden Photo but it's just ringing. Interesting
what you said about them having some on the shelves because I
phoned yesterday and they said they were all back ordered.

How much did you pay Andy?

When did you call yesterday? I know for certain that some units were available on the shelves when I was there last night. They weren't reserved either, as the guy I talked to actually pointed to those units and asked me to tell my friends who were also looking for 20Ds to come in the store and pick them up.

I paid $1999.95 + taxes, which worked out to be $2300. That is with a free OEM battery.

Not sure if it was Ingrid, to be fair. One of the girls there is kind of hot in a bookish way. The manager is Tracy and I find him helpful as well. I just called Aden Camera on a fluke to see, and they do have some available...very discouraging. Henry's has none to fill preoders and these guys have some available today.

The girl told me they don't know when or how many they were
getting. Seems they better get their stories straight. She was
pretty adamant that she had absolutely NO information to give me.
Actually, she said "soon".

Let me guess ..Ingrid?? I've dealt with her many times and she has
been snotty with me everytime. By the luck of the draw I spoke to
her yesterday got the same answer as you did. I called back this
morning and dealt with a manager.

I ordered from the Henrys website and they said they won't charge
me anything until it ships (and they haven't). Maybe it's just the
stores that require the deposit?

By the way, what's the point of a deposit if it's "refundable" as
stated in another post??

Yes the website allows you to preorder with no deposit. When I called the store to preorder it was a manditory $1000 on my credit card. I called the store back yesterday to question the manager about that but got Ingrid instead (see my previous post). She tried to tell me the preorders with a deposit got higher priority that the web orders. I did not believe that and called her bluff which she then backed down from and said the priority was the same for all. She then told me I could cancel my preorder with the store and go via the web but I would lose my spot. Now that Henrys has received it's inital shipment of 120 units and I was not high enough to get one I have indeed cancelled with them.

...it's getting 20Ds AND 17-85 IS lenses today. I don't know if they'll have extras or not.

Kewl. I hate doing that to cameracanada but they are just not on the ball I guess. They are waiting for Canon to ship while some of the more aggressive companies are going out to pick them up. The people at cameracanada are nice though andd I will certainly support them in the future but I have also purchased from Aden in the past and hd no problems with them either. I am just too much of a kid when it comes to new stuff like that and have always been a little impatient.

I haven't the foggies idea but maybe, just possibly, the stores do not get cred for web sales as the web might be corp head office and they want the deposit since the average consumer won't cancel in risk of losing it even thought they won't and you will end up back in the cue because you are in a different cue with the store.If they ship it you get it from their stock instead of the 'web' stock out of head office. I am just speculating of course.

Someone like futureshop may take back anything for any reason but Aden's policy seems fine to me. You need to know what you want but will be replaced if found defective within 10 days. Not great but fair.

Unless you're very low on the waiting list I'd be very surprised if the 20D didn't show up by Tuesday. The only question is if you'd get one of the initial shipments.

Just called them again a few minutes ago to see if they had any new news and they don't have an ETA.

You'd think with a large camera store like Henry's they would at least call Canon Canada to get an ETA on their shipment. Maybe the big boys need to learn from Aden.

Oh well, must remain patient

I'm not buying mine from Aden--not having to pay PST if you order from outside Ontario (mine is coming from simonscameras.com) is equivalent to a $160 discount--but I bought my Digital Rebel from Aden and found them good to deal with. The first camera I got had some hot pixels; I took it back and Eddie gave me a new one without any hassle. But, unlike Henry's, they won't take a camera back for a refund or credit if the only reason for returning it is that you don't like it. I don't think there's much chance of that with the 20D, but I'd have to think about it if I'm purchasing a lens.

Just called them, they have 20D with 17-85Kit available now. The price is $2750 cnd, and the free battery only goes with the body only, so there is no free battery with 17-85 kit. Should I pick it up at my lunch hour? It's only 10 min drive from my office. I don't have any lenses now.
