I thought I would share these mainly in response to the recent review I read here. The OP took a Stylus 1 to South America but seemed to have a world of problems with focus etc.
I found it to be generally a great camera to travel with. Unobtrusive and very easy to carry in one hand or in a small pouch. The menu was intuitive and once the SuperControlPanel was activated it is one of the most enjoyable cameras to use. The focus was super quick and it allowed me to capture some nice images. All shots were handheld.

Salvador Port. 28mm (35mm format)

Practising capoeira in the shadow of Sugarloaf mountain, Rio. 76mm

Southern Crested Caracara not wanting to share the fish it's just caught on Salvador beach. 300mm

Early morning game of Footvolley on Salvador beach. 150mm

A Penelope in the Parque das Mangabeiras, Belo Horizonte. 182mm

Walking along Copacabana beach I came across a slightly inebriated woman remonstrating with a Police officer regarding the altercation she was just involved in. 100mm

There was a clowder of cats between Flamengo beach and Botafogo beach, Rio. They were placid and very friendly, even to the local bird life. 300mm

View of Urca Hill (Morro da Urca) on the right and Sugarloaf Mountain on the left. 38mm

Sunset from Christ the Redeemer, Corcovado. Rio. 165mm

Christ the Redeemer through the clouds. 165mm

A Tufted Capuchin monkey on the way to Mirante Dona Marte in Rio. 150mm

The National Congress building, in the capital Brasilia, illuminated in the yellow and green from the colours of the Brazilian flag. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the father of Brazilian architecture. 35mm
