Are you still on the floor? I was there a bit earlier and will pop back in tomorrow. Pretty dismal. Last few years the 1 at least had signage.
Yes I'm still on the floor looking at drones. I'm thinking if I hurry I can sell all of my lenses and cameras and get into the future now. this is depressing, but at least I know now what my Nikon representative meant by a new CX flagship camera line. Sadly I didn't suspect it would not include an inter-changeable lens camera. Are you still on the floor? I was there a bit earlier and will pop back in tomorrow. Pretty dismal. I agree. After talking with them. It's over.

What does that mean, I can see no real point in a J6 now, but the DLs are not a suitable alternative to a V4, so comments about the J5, may or may not tell us anything about the V series.
I went throug the same thing when the V3 was announced after talking to people at the booth. Sold most of my gear r the following day. Literally. Got back in minus the expensive stuff a year later. Just checked Amazon and premium kit with grip, Lens, and EVF new is now 64,000 yen. That's a big hit.Yes I'm still on the floor looking at drones. Dropped or not, that's one sad looking display! Doesn't look like Nikon's interested in encouraging current or potential N1 users. What does that mean, I can see no real point in a J6 now, but the DLs are not a suitable alternative to a V4, so comments about the J5, may or may not tell us anything about the V series.

Hi Grahm - in Japanese there is this vocal "teeth sucking" sound a native speaker will use to politely indicate "it ain't gonna happen" which is what I heard when I asked about a V3 replacement. Also there wasn't a single Nikon 1 lens, sign, or brochure on the table or at their huge booth, which is another indicator I believe. Even the girl at the counter where the V3/J5 kit was only talking about memory cards. On the other hand the DL had a lot of interest:What does that mean, I can see no real point in a J6 now, but the DLs are not a suitable alternative to a V4, so comments about the J5, may or may not tell us anything about the V series.

It appears the fog is slowly clearing and the N1 saga is coming to an end. The cameras I have will be functional for a while and addition of a DL is a possibility.
Fuji developed theirs even quicker having been introduced 1 year later than Nikon 1.They never really developed a system, just a couple of so-so bodies and a few interesting lenses. If one wants to develop a system from scracth, check how m43 developed.
Even without discontinuing Nikon 1 this is true.Roadmap, a complete line of bodies, accessories, etc. Nikon always favored F-mount and, there, FF. Even when they didn't have an FF body, the better lenses were FF-able.
All written in the stars.
If and when they introduce a new ML system, they better be careful, no one will jump in unless it shows clear chances of full development. This one has been vaccinated, Nikon's credibility for a new mount/system has been tarnished badly.

The unfortunate perception is that Nikon 1 customers were guinea pigs for Nikon DL.N1 is really turning out to be a fiasco, but for Nikon's perspective it would have been a worthy experiment if DL turns out to be a hit. I got in the N1 game late and didn't invest that heavy but I'm sure more well invested users would be feeling terrible how it's ending. I agree Nikon should have treated N1 users better, but I'm sure they're in a tough situation too, camera business changing so much and just losing so much to the phone cameras. I think without N1 user base there would be no DL so it's not all loss if DL turns out to be genuinely good cameras.
It's true and everyone knows that. But, N1 users enjoyed class leading AF for 5! years while many of the others were pulling their hair out. So there's that. The unfortunate perception is that Nikon 1 customers were guinea pigs for Nikon DL.N1 is really turning out to be a fiasco, but for Nikon's perspective it would have been a worthy experiment if DL turns out to be a hit. Although I've seen many Nikon 1 V users state their preference here for a fixed VF, I don't recollect any advocacy of fixed lenses - just as no people were ever crying out for microSD cards, or to have more AutoISO top values removed etc. What makes me not angry enough to abandon Nikon all together is that they really listened to N1 users' demands and created DL.
I'm not saying Nikon 1 is dead. It's just the DL makes it feel like Nikon 1 customers are doing all the hard work only to have the fruits of the labor given to someone else.I have plenty invested in the N1 system, but all at bargain basement prices. The wife uses the V2 with the V1 as a back, plus the lastest zoom, the 18.5, the 10, and the 10-100. I use the J5, and have a J3 and J1 as back ups, and shoot either the 18.5 or the 30-110. None of them bought at regular prices.
And so I don't care if the N1 is dead or not. I have extra batteries, sd cards, and money for any of the 3 excellent other lenses if they collapse in price. In the meantime, we just keep shooting and having fun.
There were plenty demands for sharp fast zooms! And obviously in minimal size. Nikon just couldn't sell the overstock bodies at fire sale prices any more, so they put them together. Multiple bodies can be a good thing. I carry two bodies in the bag anyways. Obviously loss of the mount is significant but they gotta do what they gotta do, make money!Although I've seen many Nikon 1 V users state their preference here for a fixed VF, I don't recollect any advocacy of fixed lenses - just as no people were ever crying out for microSD cards, or to have more AutoISO top values removed etc. What makes me not angry enough to abandon Nikon all together is that they really listened to N1 users' demands and created DL.
First of all, the N1 market was a very small part of Nikon's sales. Just ask any camera store. Aside from people that own the N1, it's passing would be hardly noticed. I said from the beginning that I thought the N1 (especially the V series) was an experiment and now it SEEMS that the experiment is over. People buy Nikon because of their glass. As long as that remains true, I don't see Nikon sales numbers will be affected by the demise of the N1.I'll live with what I have, but on principle will not buy another Nikon. It's not as though there are not alternatives out there. I think a lot will join me. We just need to be vocal, in case anyone from Nikon reads this forum (there has been precious little sign of it in the past)It appears the fog is slowly clearing and the N1 saga is coming to an end. The cameras I have will be functional for a while and addition of a DL is a possibility.
