Some unedited examples from my 808. All with native camera app. A few with boosted saturation incamera. Pureview zoom was used in some occasions.

I still prefer to add some saturation and contrast on my PC.

C&C as always welcome.

Only the cars sign was blured.

Very nice indeed. These samples look better than the Microsoft Lumia 950 to my eyes. More natural (but rich and vivid) colours and slightly better clarity than the 950. Though currently there are very few samples of the 950, original full resolution unedited samples.

Absolutely agree with the natural appearance of images captured with the 808. Also the ability to custom tweak the color saturation, sharpness, etc allows the user to customize their photographic experience to their tastes.

I noticed that, if I overdo it with incamera saturation slider, then it's not so easy to tweak down the pic to a "reality" state. So Keep the settings down to saturation +1, contrast +1...

Chroma noise could ruin the pic and it's difficult to denoise it without loosing detail.

I agree, better to add saturation on PC.

Every time I see photos with such quality, it made me wanting to go back to the 808. Currently I am using a new smartphone. The only good thing it is good at, as a camera, is in close-up macro shots, producing crisp and sharp images with good clarity and detail(though not remotely close to the quality shown in the image above). Nevertheless, in all other shooting conditions, portrait, landscapes, street and low light, it is a far cry from the Nokia Pureview 808.

These 3 photos above are spectacular. One would have mistaken these 3 images to come from a DLSR or high quality compact (instead of a phone) if nobody told them so.

Would appreciate if you can advise how did you take these photos with the 808. I presume you used the Manual mode. I noticed the Exposure time (shutter speed) of the bar shot in low light is 1.45s and 2.7s respectively. Did you set the ISO at 50 and let the camera select the shutter speed automatically?

These are some of the "better" photos that I took with the 808 in low light (the worse ones are not shown here as they are very blurry with the images looking out of focus).

ryder78 I always use 8mp pureview mode, except for pv zoom for some closeups. There is no real manual mode in 808. All I did is to set to Hyperfocal, iso to 50-200 and EV -0.7 to -1.7. My table and a glass of water was used as a tripod haha. The timer was set to 10 sec. You can actually see on the water's surface, if the "tripod" stands still during the shot!!!

awesome stuff! again it shows the 808 as having that natural DSLR look to its photos, that newer smartphone can come nowhere close to.

I hear the Delight Belle Team will be releasing a new OS for the 808, which will be a cleaned up (some Nokia things no longer work and will be removed, and other mods and edits to the OS will be made) version of their OS for the 808. Which will give it a further lease of life, I'm selling my Moto X (2nd Gen) and my iPhone 6s purely cos I'm so disappointed with the IQ compared to the 808.

Wow, you sure use a lot of phones. Are you a smartphone reviewer or you own a phone shop or something?

Is the 808 your primary phone? Having used the iPHone 6S and the latest Android smartphones, I am impressed that you can still live with the 808 if you are using it on a daily basis as your primary phone. No doubt the camera in the 808 is excellent, but as a smartphone in today's modern world, it is lacking a lot - the main reason I switched. I am fine if current 808 owners disagree with me.

just a bit of a gadget freak I guess...

you're right, its a tough call, but if you search a bit most of the primary apps are available for the 808, Dropbox, twitter, Facebook, Instagram, office, decent email (even for exchange), photo editing, media apps, weather etc. Sure the variety aint there, but the main one are.

I tried to keep it simple in terms of choice by asking whether the IQ is more important than the apps etc and said no, the IQ is the most important aspect, and once you make peace with that its cool.

lack of apps is sometimes a very good thing, when I used Android I often found myself literally losing time downloading some stupid stuff and testing it only to question myself what the hell am I really doing lol, with 808 I use my phone only for what I need it and it does the job perfectly

but if you really need some mobile app for your job (although I can't remember of many such jobs) then you'll have to go with Android/iOS

As what Stefan G mentioned, it all depends on the user. The apps are not the main reason I switched from the Nokia Pureview 808 to an Android phone. As a matter of fact, I don't really put much emphasis on apps and didn't to even spend time searching for apps. I don't use Facebook, Instagram or even photo editing (I am old school).

For me, it is the overall usability. To be able to log onto the internet and surf websites, read online news on the go, wherever you are. The 808 cannot access or open some websites, and the speed is very slow when opening a page. One may choose to use a tablet for this, but he would have to carry two devices (I definitely won't go this route). I find a 5.2" screen to be just about nice for this (808 is too small). Some prefer 5.5" screens or larger but those sizes are too big for me.

Other factors are the smoothness in operation which includes smooth swiping and taps on the touch screen where not only the speed but responsiveness of the Android phones will be much better than the 808. And the size of the screen which is also a factor for me 5.2" (ideal size) vs. small 4.5" of the 808.

I can understand that some people may just want to use the phone just to make calls and do basic primary stuff, and for this reason the 808 will be sufficient. Nevertheless, for my case and the majority of people (I believe), most of the things that I have said above would be important factors. Minority of people would do fine with the 808, but MAJORITY of people wouldn't consider it as a SMARTphone. The Nokia Pureview 808 surely is stellar when it comes to producing good quality photos. It is just unfortunate that at this point of time there is no successor for this Symbian model yet. Although the 950 is a good effort from Microsoft, it still doesn't quite match the Nokia 808 due to the limitations in the hardware.

Modern smartphones nowadays are all about retaining a slim and sexy profile, and having a bulge to house a large sensor would be the last thing most manufacturers would want to have. A good camera phone nowadays (like the Panasonic CM1) will become a niche product, not mainstream. You get good quality photos with the CM1 but the operation as a whole - the speed, smoothness etc. will not be as good as the flagship phones. Can't have everything in one package, and for that reason we users are spoilt for choices with the plethora of smartphones that are available in the market to choose from.

what sites you couldn't open exactly? Stock browser is awful (mainly because it's VERY old), but Opera Mini and Opera Mobile do the job for me...and their are couple of others too.
Yahoo is one of them. And the Naim hifi forum website could not load properly. It came out in bits and pieces and I couldn't scroll the page down.

I rarely browse the internet with the 808 due to the excruciating slow speed and small screen. I usually read on my laptop and desktop computer instead.

Unfortunately, when the Ovi Store went to Opera, the sis files were lost in the change. I've noticed that Opera Store has .jad files for Nokia instead. I should have kept them Opera sis file. I will have to look for them.
