contact sports... not really a surprise to me after seeing your pictures. i just watched a youtube movie and it looks like a lot of fun! these girls are tough... i like the fact that they're still using good old roller skates instead of inline skates - i never got along with the latters.

I remember watching roller derby on TV as a kid, but they did it on banked tracks then, a lot faster and wilder than flat track, I expect. I've been wanting to go check out roller derby in my city (also flat track, I expect there aren't many banked tracks around these days), and I just ordered the 75mm, so once it arrives I may finally get motivated enough to go.

Fun! Am guessing the lighting was lousy and these show how beneficial a fast lens and good high-ISO capabilities are in capturing formerly impossible shots.

Yeah, usually lots of bruises. Yesterday was the first time I saw someone need the medics. Apparently ankle injuries are quite common, obviously.

Very nice photos and use of 75mm lens.
How did you focus? AF-S or C? I found 75mm F1.8 a bit slow to focus, much slower than 45mm F1.8 and 25mm (if I shot this with 75mm I would prefocus on ice). It's impressive what you did.

C-AF.. Had the focus box up one spot from the centre to try and focus on heads. I think I had about 75% hit rate with it.

Nice work, i tried but mine were awful, 95% op errors.

Am going to give it another try when the season begins again. This time with the EM1
