Where did this cataclysm take place and how could the SX50 possibly have caught it? The answer lies in the upcoming "SX50 Mini-Review Take Four: Different Paths to Up Close and Personal."

But I'm sure most of you will figure it out long before that arrives (hopefully in the next week).

Hint: The uncropped horizontal field of view in the last image is about 4 millimeters.

Have fun,

Always ready for SX50 HS Macro instructions, I will study hard while I wait for your report.

Very intriguing, Vision.

Have you been drinking? That's my guess.
Stephen,

When I put in the hint, I had you in mind. Knew you would be intrigued.

After a long day that included saying a final goodbye to a long time friend, I needed to have a little fun. Though she was a superstar in the international medical research community, she was also a photographer who loved to have fun. I know she would appreciate it. And yes, we may have had a toast or two, because it was a celebration of a life well lived. I would guess that her fabulous scientific mind is elated that she now probably knows all the things about black holes that we can only ponder about. If there is a good place, she is there. And taking pictures.

John,

I've been finding out some interesting things that may make me change some of the settings on my camera. Have some more work to do, but should be getting back to everyone soon.

Nice imagination, Vision :)
I like imagination, my friend. No bounds. Endless possibilities. And occasional clarity that leads to wonderous discovery. And when creating imagery, or not, it's fun. :)

Maybe a swarm of one-eyed cyclopes escaping a wicked witches brew? :0) I'm anxious to here about your new SX50 discoveries. Are you hand holding your macros or using a tripod/monopod/bean bean or something else? Since downsizing from the DSLR I can't decide what else I might need if anything like filters, supports, extra flash? I guess I'll just bump along until I find that I need something. It sounds like your friend lived life to its fullest -- good for her!

Murry,

I like your imagination as well. Maybe together we should write some (scary) childrens books. :)

For non-rail tabletop photography with my full frame equipment (film and digital), I use a Manfrotto 482 mini-tripod. It is very small, sturdy and has a ball head that easily secures in place with a small lens attached to the camera. There's slight droop depending on weight, but correctable by aiming slightly high. I find it to be a great companion to the size and weight of the SX50, so it has been drafted into service.

Turns out I draft a number of supplies from my big kits to use with my P&S cameras. If there's no natural way to fit or commercial adaptor, I have a workshop full of machinery and make my own. Just a litle imagination needed.

My guess is going to be some frog eggs. :)

Hi Dale,

Yes, I know I'm crazy enough to try pushing my cameras to try to get living nature at the tiniest levels, but not this time. It's been raining for days and is supposed to continue that way for some tiime to come. So it's indoor set-ups this time around.

New hint. In the indoor section of the low light mini-review, look at the full light set-up image just before the low light indoor examples. Although it's not the same example as the other-worldly creatures above, a similar answer is in a tiny little fraction of that set-up image.

P.S. Wish we could get some nice weather to finish Take Four, but it looks like it's going to have to be all indoor shots. At least if it was snow, I could try doing individual snowflakes. So it looks like less exciting indoor objects, but I'll try to do a good job anyway.

OK, now EYE know what it is!

Also, I just want to say "Thanks!" to you and all the other good folks who have been playing with the SX50 and writing about it. If I am lucky, and haven't been too naughty, Santa might leave one under the tree for me.

Take care,

Al

You're welcome Al, and welcome to the forum as well. Hope Santa is good to you. Take a lot of pictures and show us some of the results. I see you have a good EYE. :)
