If you like command line tools:

http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/

You can also use Irfanview. By default, IrfanView renders the embedded JPEG -- just save as JPEG. You can also use the batch feature to process an entire folder in this way.

The instant jpeg from raw is much easier, just right click on the file and chooce instat jpeg from raw, chooce your settings and done.

Much easier then the other tools.

To extract the thumbnail image in the raw file ( rather than process the raw file to match the thumbnail ) use the dcraw command line tool. It has an option to do this. It will dump the embedded thumbnail in whatever format it is stored in and that's not always JPEG.

You'd type "dcraw -e " from the command line.

dcraw is at http://www.cybercom.net/~dcoffin/dcraw/

It has other options if you want to try some unusual processing of your raw files.

Works with Win7 64-bit... using a 32-bit Windoze Explorer window.
Create a shortcut on your desktop to....

%windir%\syswow64\explorer.exe /separate

Open 32-bit Explorer using this shortcut. Right-Click on a RAW file, then left-click on "Instant JPEG from RAW".

Enjoy!

(make sure you download the latest version of IJFR which supports 64-bit)

Many viewers can actually view RAW files by actually showing the embedded jpeg image. Irfanview does this for my Leica camera. Try Irfanview out. The image shown (iif it does) is the jpeg. Just save it. :)
