I had a pleasant surprise today.I tried my sb600 today on my LX5 and the results are great when flash is set to Manual mode.then i tried it with my Interfit radio trigger and i was able to use my flash even off camera.I take this as a great bonus that i didn't expect.i thought that i just get this out here in case anyone wondering if their nikon flash could be used with the LX5.

That's great to know. I was wondering if it would. My SB600 worked with the GH1 in manual mode and I used it to bounce off the ceiling. Now just the wait till my LX5 arrives to try it.
Thx

Nice, but what's the news about it? Almost every flash with the standard hot shoe will work in MANUAL mode on a camera with standard hot shoe. It's just the trigger contact that's used. There will be no communication between camera and flash except "Im firering NOW". You might even set your SB600 to Auto mode. Tell him your ISO and aperture and he will do his own metering when it gets triggered by the camera. But again, this will work with every camera that has a hot shoe.

Yep. Any standard hotshoe flash that supports a manual or auto mode should work on the LX5.

The SB600 doesn't have an auto mode. Just Manual and TTL.

Auto mode will work on the SB800 and 900, though. I've used my SB800 that way on my LX3 and G11.

The hot shoe on LX3 is too tight to insert the flash shoe.
I have just tried, could someone confirm please?

I have a wireless Cactus V2 trigger/receiver set and LX5 works great with in manual mode for off-camera flash. It is nice to know that you can get the flash on directly, but I would hardly use it this way. The camera is too small and hard to balance with a flash.

I suspect it's a case of Canon foot dimensions being wrong as all the other ISO standard feet on other brand flashes fit OK. The only one that really doesn't fit is the Minolta/Sony flash with their wacky foot.
