X-E3 shutter button not working when half pressed

Hi, just bought a used X-E3 and it works perfectly... Except the half pressed shutter button won't set focus.

I've tried everything. Reset the camera settings, read the manual, tried every permutation of button/focus settings, etc.

Today I went to the camera store and 3 different sales people couldn't make this work. They had an E-3 in stock that did behave correctly and I copied it's settings line by line, still nothing. Finally one of the salespeople pulled an external shutter out and plugged it into my camera and it worked as desired.

From what I've tried, the most likely explanation is that there is a mechanical issue with the button. Pressing it halfway does not engage focus. I can take a picture no problem and it sets focus upon clicking the shutter but this isn't my preferred way of working. It doesn't always accurately set focus and I need confirmation.

With that said. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix? Is it possible I'm still not configuring the camera correctly?

Thanks in advance. Pulling my hair out.

No problem with mine. Can you return it, or send it back for repair?

Your post might imply so, but just to double check - you have "SHUTTER AF" option set to "ON", right?

If you haven't checked this already, see p229 in the (360 page!) user's manual.

Menu > Setup > Button/Dial Setting > Shutter AF > AF-S > ON
