Won the KEH Shutter Count Roulette

Just arrived yesterday was a Nikon D750 in Excellent + condition. Outward appearance looked new to me. Checked the serial number and it was not one of those that were recalled due to shutter issues. A check of the shutter count was 6508. So I was extremely pleased over the low count. I had been watching MPB and Used Photo Pro for low count bodies with using both places email alerts. But after losing a like new one on MPB while I was trying to log in to buy it, I decided to go back to my usual source for used gear at KEH.

KEH had buying events in Illinois and California the first 2 weeks of December so I figured they should be listing some newly bought items before the end of December. I rarely see Exc+ or LN for their 750s so when one showed up last week I decided to take my chances on getting a low count one since the are so easy to handle returns if I wasn't pleased with the shutter count.

First pics really showed the low light capabilities compared to my 7000 which struggles to AF in low light.

cool amazing!

Enjoy !!!

Nice, have a good one.

I had a D750 years ago, (foolishly) sold it, and moved to Nikon mirrorless bodies (Z6, then the Z6 II). I generally like the Z6 II except for dodgy eye-detect focusing, especially with my FX 85mm f1.8 when taking portraits.

An advantage of the D750 (unlike the D780) is its built-in flash, useful in hitting focus with pre-flashes before the shot, plus being able to use all the Creative Lighting System features.

So, back to the D750 after all these years, and I'm awaiting delivery Friday of what appears to be a decent one from eBay with about 23K shutter activations.

I got a Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-D ED Macro late version from KEH for it. Has the tripod foot and is one heavy lens. Makes my DX plastic zooms seem like toys. Also got a like new grip and battery pack for it from Used Photo Pro. Haven't put that on it yet.

My two time experience with buying camera gear Ebay years ago was first buying a Nikon lens from an individual. He shipped it in a plastic bag wrapped in an old t shirt. Had lens fungus and blown apertures. The second was a nice looking Tamrac 2 camera bag that had been used at a beach it seems. Sand all in it.

Well, I'm really quite surprised.

In my experience, the large movers of devices--phones, tablets, cameras, etc., on eBay are somewhat or very generous (to themselves) with the descriptions of the items for sale.

But, my new (to me) D750 from "robertscameras", actually UsedPhotoPro in Indianapolis, arrived in absolutely perfect condition. Not a mark on the body, it could identify as "new." A third-party battery, and a Nikon charger were included.

So far, so good, with a few test shots. Everything seems to work fine.

The asking was $658. I offered $625 and they immediately accepted. It arrived in two days.

One oddity with the D750 that I'd never noticed before:

The two-button full reset does not erase the copyright info stored in the body. And, my images were copyrighted to one Michael S. 2019. It easy enough to erase but a curiosity nonetheless.

Hi,

Ah. Roberts. Yes. A photo store in Indy. I have used them before. Bought lots of Pentax 645 gear including a 645D. All for great prices and all in excellent shape. Folks trading to get Fujifilm GFX cameras and GF lenses.

I first found out about them in the mid 1980s when I was in Indy to participate in the 500 as crew.

There's always stories of buyers who received items like in your second paragraph, so perforce buying on ebay is bad bad bad

Me, I've never had buying experiences like that. All my ebay/FredMiranda/Craigslist/KEH purchases have been just fine. Lucky me, right?

Exactly. A little common sense and eBay-smarts honed over the years go a long way.

If buying from high-volume resellers there, make sure seller-paid returns are included. Assume they exaggerate the item’s condition. Again, UsedPhotoPro actually under-exaggerated in my case.

If from a private party, check the feedback score, make sure that the location in the item matches the seller’s profile location, etc.

Yes, lucky you
