I received an email update on the new edition of the Widelux camera, the Widelux X, being made by Silvergrain Classics and Jeff Bridges.

Here is the text of the email, along with images that were included:

An occasional email from the team behind the new WideluxX camera

We know it’s been quiet for a while. Turns out, making a brand-new mechanical camera is no quick job! Every piece — inside and out — has to be thought through, tested, and sometimes re-imagined.

We really appreciate you sticking with us while we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes. There’s a lot to share, so let’s get to it!

A little patience, a lot of parts.

So, what’s been happening?

In addition to all the work that goes into creating and refining both the inner workings of the camera and its exterior casing, our lead engineer, Wolfgang, has been working on some parts that aren’t just for the new camera —Widelux F7 / F8 owners, you’re in on this too.

From the beginning, one of our goals has been to find ways to support the existing Widelux community, and we’re excited that our engineering explorations have led us to some parts that enhance the experience of using both the new WideluxX, and older F7 & F8 cameras.

Here’s what’s been on the bench:

A couple of different rewind knob designs (two or three in the running).

A cable release adapter which works without removing the bushing around the shutter release.

A new film advance knob with improved knurling for better grip.

* * *

It’s all part of getting the first prototype ready to roll — more on this soon!

These aren’t the only things we’ve been working on, of course! We’ve gotten lots of suggestions and wishes from Widelux fans and experienced technicians. Based on that input, we’re making a series of tweaks that will make our WideluxX more user-friendly, and easier to maintain.

Stay tuned for details...

Glad to see there is still some life in this project - and that we will hear “more on this soon” regarding a prototype. 🤞🏻

I think this is exciting news...I know this has been in the works for years now so sounds as if they are doing it right 'quality 'wise and moving forward at a pace to make sure it remains 'quality ' all the way thru the process. Not sure of the cost but it wouldn't surprise me if this camera is near $3500 US.

Thanks for sharing. Yes, I have fondness for some digitals. Mostly earlier compact cameras. But something special about the photo-mechanical era.
