Why 8 sec shutter only?

I own Casio QV3500. It can take pictures up to 60 sec both in program and bulb mode.
1. Why Nicon decided to have only 8 sec? Are they afraid of something?

2. 5 min in bulb reqiures remote. Why do they want us to spend more money on them?
3. Do you think it's only a firmware problem?

Is it because the camera needs 8 seconds to start up
or
because needs 8 seconds to get focused?

Before blaming, read the manual.
Nikon CP5000 enable 5 minutes exposure (without remote) in bulb mode!
The remote is a recomendation only to prevent blurring by camera shake.

Well, I would suggest to leave Nikon for the people who read the manuals and and you to stay with the Casio which 'do not afaid of something'. By the way, the only good devices that Casio makes are calcculators - not even watches

NO, becouse of poor ccd in Casio cam You must wait 60s to reach the same light level as 8s NIkon ;-)

Real reason of this 8 secs is that it is enought for almost every night shot. If You go for astrophotography You should use bulb exposure. Even Canon D-60 (DSLR) has max 30s limit, so it doesn't matter. If You want I can show You 60+ sec shots without a remote or even tripod....

Just for you information:

Casio uses Sony CCD (pls don't commmet on this one - Nikon CCD is way better, now it's clear to me), and Canon lenses (pls don't commmet on this one - Nikon lenses are way better, now it's clear to me).

Yes, I am doing a lot of astrophoto. I have a lot of pictures with 60 s exposure (don't need remote just the selftimer) with only few hot pixels. How about Nikon CCD at that long exposure? 88 or 888 hot pixels?

I am quite happy with my camera. The only problem important to me is that I can't set it up with my telescope. (to big, poor Canon lenses) That's why I got interested with small lenses camera like CP4500. But again, for that reason briliant 5700 would also be usless.

yes, try to keep your finger for 5 minuts on the shutter for 5 minuts especially durin winter. pretty boring and dangerous job for XXI century. not to mention the blure.

I have no opinion on that. I am using Cittizen. But I guess Nicon calculators are (will be) much better

If You are astrophotogrphy fan I think You should invest with tripod and remote to get good shots with E4500. 60s is one of Casio pros, but with Nikon You can do 5 min exposure and with noise reduction get good pic of the sky. There is some software which can stack Your shorter exposure images in one long exposure, so You don't need a long exposure at all.

Maybe Nikon cameras are perfect. Don't know as I don't have one. But some of the people from the Nikon forum need a firmware fix.

I have already decided - I will go for CP4500. Just wanted to know from experinced Nikon users what to they think about 8 sec. Not much luck so far. Only feedback from happy Nikon users.

It does not require the remote. It is merely recommended in order to reduce the possibility of camera shake.
