In this thread, we can discuss where we'll go after April 10.

I'll take this opportunity to plug the new Facebook Group I started for that purpose. It's going great so far; 77 members since yesterday.

No, it's not the same as a classical forum like we have here, but it can be customized, too. For example, you can select whether you want to see the newest posts, newest threads, etc. You can customize how many updates Facebook gives you, etc.

So far, it is more light-hearted, and more about photography than gear, but of course gear discussions can be made too.

Another user (Asher) suggested his forum:

https://openphotographyforums.com/forums/

He provides it free of charge as a pay-it-forward thing. Seems like a stand-up guy!

He's willing to listen to feedback on how to improve it.

Edit 3/24/2023: This seems like a nice place to call build up and call home. I've joined up here as well: https://camera-info.com/photocommunity/

My opinions are my own and not those of DPR or its administration. They carry no 'special' value (except to me and Lacie of course)

Hi,

I really can't technically. It has something to do with how DPR uses menu drop downs, then in each topic (thread) I can see the entire thread all at once, and within a thread I can bounce to a reply, go to the top or bottom of the conversation (or in the middle), or see the most recent reply. I can easily return to the forum level if I want, or leave and go to another forum using a drop down. I don't know enough to describe what this is. Hope this helps.

Larry

I would like to know if he means he's using flat or threaded view. A lot of forums will allow both - you just need to know what to click.

I don't have a Reddit account, I don't know how many people here use it. But one thing I was trying to say was that Imaging Resource doesn't have the advanced search like this site does where you could narrow down the lenses/cameras. There is something called Neocamera.com that is around. It does give you fairly detailed information on cameras/lenses, at least on paper, but as far as I know, I don't know who does that testing on that one.

It's much more interesting a forum that brings together several brands of cameras!
I advise you to register on two new promising forums

MyBB (Admin alansh) In collaboration with DPRevived.com

And https://dpreview.communitydummy.com/community/
DPreview Clone (Administrator dirk)

For those interested in either https://cameradiscussion.createmybb4.com/ or https://dprevived.com - these are now one initiative. CameraDiscussion formed a very fast response but with limited capacity for future development. DPRevived.com runs on it's own platform on its own server and thus can be developed as the community wishes. The aim of both Alan and myself is to develop something that is genuinely community run - we don't want big corporations or egos in charge any more. If you go onto DPRevived.com you can see the proposals for future management - or at least my proposals - they are already being discussed.

DPRevived suffered from a few bugs causing difficulties with registration and some of the forum operation, but these are hopefully fixed now. The base system that I used is a bit clunky and it doesn't yet look as smooth as some of the sites created by professional web developers, but that will come. From the people that have joined we have a good selection of skills that should be able to develop the site fast.

So, if you haven't, go and have a look at DPRevived.com - even if you've registered for some of the others.

Hopefully, if they work together then your loyalty won't be tested!

Good news 👍🏻

Photography on the Net is the other site I have been frequenting the last several years. Pretty similar to DPR. There was less traffic than DPR, but perhaps now that will change. The classified buy/sell section is a good alternative to the commercial sites

The bugs on DPRevived.com are now fixed, so you can go directly there, if you want.

I understand it's not a priority at this very early stage, but is there any plan to revive the "Challenges"? It's one of the favorite sections of DPR.

After all it's a photography site. Challenges encourage, bring out and showcase the community's best photographic effort.

I joined because they have a software guy who knows what he's doing. Check this out especially option #3:

Dpreview users have 3 different ways of using my forums and it depends on the personal preferences what they prefer. But everything is possible and ready to go. Since I do community management since 20 years, I have the experience and knowledge to cover all this for you all.

There are 3 choices:

1. Join an existing forum, which has all brands included. Similar to dpreview now:
www.camera.info.com
or for MF only:
www.MediumFormatForum.com

2. Join an existing brand-forum, which is almost empty, so like a fresh start, but only for one brand always. There 8 possibilities:

www.L-Mount-Forum.com
www.NikonCommunity.com
www.CanonCommunity.com
www.FujiCommunity.com
www.MFTcommunity.com
www.SonyAlphaCommunity.com
www.GRuserforum.com
www.shotonsmartphone.com

3. Joining an empty clone of dpreview. An exact copy of dpreview:

https://dpreview.communitydummy.com/

Dprevived is just starting and they are making great progress. I'm impressed at their efforts in such a short time.

here is something else to consider although it needs substantial work (and a dark view mode ASAP):

https://dprevived.com/categories/

Edit: They also need to change this: "Username can only contain latin alphabet letters and digits."

As I cannot join because of my user name starting with a 3.

Silly stuff like that.
