Hello Everyone

Being confined at home like most of us on the planet , I only shoot macro around in my garden. For these shoots the buffer size is not important at all. Therefore I picked up my GR which I had not been using much since I got the GRII in 2015

I have read threads about the sticky shutter or other cameras dying after around 10K or 15K shutter counts . I am fortunate not to have had this so far despite intensive use of the cameras

However , both cameras are showing some minor problems like the shutter button getting recessed into the camera and similar problem with the back rocker button

I am curious to see if I am lucky or if many of you have managed to get a high shutter count on your GR APS cameras

so if you could please share your shutter count on your GR APS (please specify the model to see if there are differences)

If one of your GR died you can also tell us what was the shutter count when your camera stop functioning

here are mine

GR 27,185 shutter count

GRII 34,631 shutter count

Looking forward to see your numbers

Harold

Here's a thread for those who don't know how to find the shutter count :

As for me, my GR (I) has a stuck lens, but if I recall correctly, I had only 7500 shots on it. I am still hoping to disassemble it, but have close to zero fantasies with regards to making it function again.

In the meantime, a new GR II is on the way to console me... I must be pretty stupid. :-D

No you just got unlucky.. hopefully you will have better luck with this GRII :-D

I had over 17k on my GR, could have been higher like 21k but can't remember now as dont have it now as have GRIII.

On the GR the lens got stuck once but I pushed it in and worked fine after that. Sold it 2nd hand in very good condition. I still got the gr wide angle lens and adapter as they didn't want it..

My GRIII has over 4k and like new. I run and cycle with mine all the time so get some abuse.

Thanks for your reply

hopefully we will get more feedback from other GR users :-)

An embarrasingly low 1161 considering it must be over a year since I bought it now. That partly reflects my interest in the GR2, partly my interest in shooting digital these days. The camera I grab when i shoot digital is the GRD1*. I've been wondering whether the new GR3 might give me some of the pleasure I get with the fun to use and handle GRD1.

*I managed to resurrect it last year with some contact cleaner. Works beautifully now.

Thanks for the reply . Sorry `I am little bit confused is the 1161 is for GR APS 1 then ?

do you know the shutter count on your GRD1 too ? (hope I am not being too curious)

going out now to make more flower pics with my GR2 :-D

I have the GR first version. I believe I am the 3rd owner. It has 11,073 clicks. The only issues I have are dust on the sensor and for a while after buying it the top retracting lens cover would stay down upon turning on. There is enough dust on the sensor that I went ahead and tried the vacuum cleaner method. That didn’t get dust off my sensor, but the retracting lens covers now work as they should. I did this in August last year. I’m debating sending it in for a $100.00 sensor cleaning along with a Panasonic LX100 that could use a sensor cleaning.

Mine has 26k. GR II. I sort of consider it new... perhaps I should recalibrate.

The lens cover flaps have gotten stuck once but I used the plastic from a candy wrapper to poke around and push any particles away. Worked.

1,161 is the shutter count on my GR2.

I only have around 7k on my original GRD1, but I switched to a new GRD1 after a few years as the original stopped working. The second GRD1 had another 8 or 9k I think, before that one stopped working too. So I would have had a total of 15k maybe over the years bewteen the two cameras. I have since fixed the original which is my current working camera.

I still have a GRD1 new in the box.

We have so many police trying to control us in the Uk, that stopping to shoot photos feels like a crime. I only manage one or two when out on daily walks.

GRII purchased April 2018 (exactly 2 years old), 67,067 shutter actuations. I use it professionally for my arts blog. May take 200-400 shots in an evening. No dust (checked at f16 monthly). Once noticed a big piece of lint at f4, while shooting. Couple of hits to the side of the turned off camera, and the lint disappeared never to be seen. Lucky I suppose.

Thank you for confirming. That means hopefully you are going to be able house this one for years

waouh. did the GRD had also the sticky shutter issue too ? I thought this was only on the APS GR .. or was it another issue altogether

that s smart. I am 100% for having a back up of one's favorite camera . As for me , I still have a very little used GRD IV but I do not really have the use for it since Ricoh came out with the APS one

I used to go to England a lot in the late 90's. I do not go there for precisely this reason. I have read many horror stories about this :-(

It's a nice camera. I use it when I want a certain quality of image. As I've said many times I'm not keen on the complexity that got introduced to the line. Of course I can use it happily. But I do not have that same relationship with it as I did when I picked up my old GRD and started using it again,

It was a different issue with the GRD1. I think it hit many of them. After a few years, the camera would develop a fault where using the ADJ button would cause the camera to freeze. A reboot would be needed.

It happened to both my GRDs eventually. Luckily last year someone claimed that contact cleaner on the ADJ wheel would cure it. It did. And then I gave the second one away and kept my first. So two GRD1s left.

They went down in price to £200 at the time. I bought two extra for friends, too.

I also have the GRDIV, and I tried it for a while. But now lies ignored in a drawer.

Usually the police are nowhere to be seen, it's only at the moment because of 'lockdown'.

well I have many different stories but I reckon they are not recent. Maybe things improved over the last decade

Waouh. That s impressive . I remember a thread about shutter count about two or three years ago and I do not think that I saw that level of shutter count
did the leather start to peel off the front of the camera ?

Also for other people , anyone out there who has this kind of shutter count on its GR ?

Harold

GR2, 22-23000 since October 2017. Everything works like new. I have opened and cleaned it 5 to 6 times at least and cut the rubber on the grip and glued it, so it's fine again.

UK has changed dramatically over the last few decades. London specifically.
