Folks in the States are receiving A100's.

I was just informed that my A100 would not be available until the end of August! On the 14th when I ordered it I was absolutely assured it would ship NLT 25 July. I even prepaid Sony Germany for it. (DUMB)

I also have a brand new Sigma 17-70 lens which I can't check out and only have 2 weeks to test and send back if I don't like it.

I am a long time Sony user but this is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Sony has many pre-order that exceeding their prediction and force all stock to go to US first!

I've seen with other products like video games that they get to the US faster than Europe. The excuse I've always heard is that there are more import regulations in Europe than the US, but who knows?

Based on the number of different UK photo magazines I would have thought they would get it first though. :)

and I'm sure that each country has it's own logistics issues for distribution.

I live in Minoltaville, just outside Sony City (but I may have to go with the flow)

For the USA, Sony has to bundle english and spanish stuff together for a 400M market. For the European 400M market, you need some in english, some in german, czech etc. For Switzerland, you even need german/frensh/italian/english in one packet. This makes things slower.

On the other hand: I like the idea that the customers of the USA test their products first and that we already have first experiences before we actually get or buy the stuff.

Regards, Josef.

Same problem here in Dubai they advertised for July a few weeks ago and now theyre saying MAYBE August :(

I am in US and I haven't seen it anywhere yet. I guess we'll all have to wait a little bit longer. Let them do their work...

I am in the US as well. I ordered mine before July 3rd but ordered the body only. My order now says " backordered" without a new shipping date.

Hi

I don't know about Germany, but in Spain the summer (especially August) is a bad time, everything becomes paralized, certain companies doesn't let any person in the offices (only the security staff).

I've suffered from it because I needed suport from the Pentax representative, but I had to wait until 15 of September to be able to contact them, since all the staff was in vacations.

In the same way, if a new model of camera (from any brand) is realesed in July or August, is almost sure that the representatives will wait until September to offer to public.

Worst: the spanish web leader in digital photography (quesabesde.com) in 2004 don't cover properly the summer release because they didn't have any person to cover the release, in september they had to write a very brief note with the releases, but remember the word: brief.

but I can't believe that sony won't lose customers requiring their camera before the summer vacations...and after the photokina the market will be "harder" than now...

It's not possible...I need my A100 before august, but here in Italy nobody knows the real release date...

so sad.

I undestand your point.

But for most of companies is a better deal to lose a sell than to keep running the business in a normal way. For me is shocking this way because as workers usually we're being "recomended" to take vacations in summer.

That's the way that Spain functions, I like this country but not for this neither for having the stores closed on Sunday.

This would be a problem for me, since I'll be there from 1 to 22 of september and I'd like to buy the A-100 then....

When I ordered on 14 July I was repeatedly told and promised that it would ship NLT than 25 July and was given the info to transfer the money. I paid the same day and Sony has my money.

In view of a supposedly firm shipping date, I purchased a Sigma 17-70 as a walk around lens. I have 2 weeks in which I can return it but I don't have a body to check it out on. So, I also have to screw around sending it back and getting that money refunded.

I am from the old school that folks do as they say. I was talking to a real person and not ordering online.

i think it's due to the fact that Sony feels the US market is more important than the European market, and the available units have gone there, this has happened with other products like PSP's and Playstations.

As for your money, in the UK they can only charge you once thay have the goods in stock, to do otherwise is fraudulent, you can pay a deposit to secure something and pay the outstanding balance when the item arrives.

The only plus point i can find for you is that, Sony's QC on initial releases can sometimes be a little ropey, so maybe you will get a better unit when it arrives, hope it turns up soon for you

Busch, what has happened has its hidden purpose.
I’d recommend to return lens back, than wait for a camera.

When you got a camera, rent this lens for a day or two to make sure you like both camera and lens.

It is quite possible that you would come to conclusion you do not like camera, or lens, or both

You took a calculated risk when you ordered a lens with first having the camera & it didn't pay off - of course that wouldn't have happened if you had had more faith in the kit lens !

If you are from the 'old school' then you should know by now not to trust everything which others tell you !! Chalk it up to experience - you'll know better next time.

Hey,

I looked at your website and was really impressed- a retired fighter pilot! That's unreal, at least from where I come from. I saw that you undertook a couple of journeys to Austria- good choice! ; )

I also pre-ordered a lens and the camera from a webshop in Germany, they claim that the body would arrive ca. (!) July 21st.
So, there is still hope....
best,
Bernd

Why should I have faith in the kit lens? As you noted, don't believe everything you hear. ;-)

As for the old school, a man is only as good as his word.

Thanks for the comments! Hey, I'm a great fan of Austria; especially around the Fiss area. Lots of good model sailplane flying down there. I hope to go again this year in September.

I would suggest you check on your order as Sony Germany now says they will not have any A100's until the end of August.
