There is a puzzling menu option tucked away deep inside my Sigma DP1x.
I cannot figure out what it does by shooting experiments or by web searches. The mystery option is not present in my Sigma DP2s. It is only in the DP1x.
Sadly, my DP1x user manual is long gone. Does anyone know what the Sigma DP1x camera's "CP Timer" is for?
Here is what I have figured out so far .....
Extra item in the Capture Settings Menu:
The CP Timer duration is set in the Capture Settings menu as above. Its function, whatever that is, is made active or inactive in the Quick-Set menu 2, accessed by pressing the QS button.
I have the CP Timer setting value set to 30sec in the Capture Settings Menu.
I have drive mode set to "CP" in the Qs2 menu.
The DP1x camera's shooting display screen now shows all the normal features, plus "CP" in a box at the upper left corner of the screen and "CP TIMER 30s" with a short line of four white dashes at the lower right corner of the screen.
When I press the shutter release button the camera records one picture, as normal. Also the text "CP TIMER 30s" starts counting down (29s, 28s, etc.), and the line of four white dashes changes to only three white dashes, and below those dashes a small red flashing symbol appears showing a red arrowhead in a red box and a bent arrow pointing down towards the physical camera button normally used for image playback. (That button is of course labelled on the camera body with a red arrowhead in a red box.)
During this CP Timer countdown I can do the things listed below. None seem to have any purpose!

Extra item in the Capture Settings Menu:
- DP2s Capture Settings Menu - 21 items including the items "Drive Mode" and "Interval Timer"
- DP1x Capture Settings Menu - 22 items (one more than the DP2s). All same as the DP2s except that between "Drive Mode" and "Interval Timer" is one extra item "CP Timer setting" with four options: 5sec, 10sec, 30sec and 60sec.
The CP Timer duration is set in the Capture Settings menu as above. Its function, whatever that is, is made active or inactive in the Quick-Set menu 2, accessed by pressing the QS button.
- In the DP2s, the drive options cycle through four options: Single Shot, Continuous Shots, 2sec delay timer and 10sec delay timer.
- In the DP1x the same four drive options are present, plus a fifth option "CP".
I have the CP Timer setting value set to 30sec in the Capture Settings Menu.

During this CP Timer countdown I can do the things listed below. None seem to have any purpose!
- Press the physical (red labelled) image playback button. Result - The countdown is cancelled.
- Press the shutter release button. Result - The camera records another image, and the CP countdown restarts at 30sec.
- Do nothing. Result - The countdown runs down to 00sec then there is short pause whilst the camera transfers into the memory card the one image captured at the time when the shutter release was pressed.
