...of my niece. Used all of the things I've learned here and I think I'm finished and ready to give it to her mom, but I need the retouching forum inspection so please tell me what you think...

For some reason, to me, the eyes on this one don't work at all. They look extremely fake to me. When I first saw them, I thought the bloat tool had been used a wee bit too much.

Again, just me. Maybe it's because the catchlights were moved?

It will be interesting to see what others think about the catchlights moved, personally, I dont like them in the center of the pupil, and what do you mean about the bloat tool, I have never heard of this, could you elaborate???

Nice portrait - attractive and fresh. Your work on it is great - not too overworked. I would agree that the center point catchlight is distracting - might be worth trying some alternatives. Also agree that the hair is lost against the dark background - makes the overall impact too "contrasty". On last item - I'm a believer in repair: maybe tackle the blemish around the side of the nose. She'll thank you : )

I personally don't like the moved catchlights. Not sure what you think is wrong with the center catchlights -- can you elaborate?

What I am saying is that Hair is hard to do well. Your touch-up looked bad because of the color you chose. White and Back are the hardest to try to do every flaw stand out on thees even when the mask is good. Your better off using colors that blend in with the old background.

Okay, just wasn't sure why you had a bird about to attack her. ;)

Yes, I usually know that the extreme background is tougher. I just had the background layer set to difference and fell in love with the way it made her face pop. I think I can work on the telltale signs a bit.

Thanks JJMacks.

Thanks for your input Joy. I don't really mind the catch lights, but I see what you're saying about the contrast. Still like it myself, but it's still in layers and I'm trying different things with the background.

And you're right, I'll fix the little thingy by her nose. Thanks very much for taking a look and giving me your input Joy. Much appreciated.

Thanks Niemand. Nice backgound you used. I'm still experimenting with the background so we'll see what I land on. Keep liking the black best no matter what I do, but I will clean it up more for sure if I use it.

Thanks very much!

In that case you may want to try a layer mask try using this one copy it to the clipboard and past it into a new channel.
