Inspired by the kindly folks over at the Olympus forum, who remind us that their thread is not camera specific!

So here's the idea:
· Use Threaded View for this thread

· Submit any photo for which you'd like comments and critique

· Post the photo you're submitting by replying to the main topic post. Make sure to change the subject heading to your photo's title...otherwise, it gets confusing fast!

· Once you post, you must give C & C for someone else! Otherwise, you'll be called out next week for posting without C & C. Make sure you reply to their thread to keep it all organized.

· This thread will stay active for 36 hours from the time of posting. At that point, the thread will be closed. A new thread will be started the following week. Comments can continue until dpreview shuts it metaphoric door

As for the C & C: This part is the most important. Please don't just say "Nice photo!" and leave it at that. Look at the photo. Figure out what you like and what you don't like. Tell what you would have done differently. Think about the exposure, the composi

Nice Robert! As a fisherman, I'm always appreciative of maritime shots. Just two quick suggestions. I'm not sure if you cropped or just couldn't get wide enough with your zoom, but I would have liked to see the transom of the Aussie Fisheries ship. Would have balanced things a bit better. The other suggestion I have (and this may be because of my crappy monitor here at work) is to tone down the yellow a bit. Just a little much for me, but then I'm partial to soft, desaturated colors.

Great work. Always like seeing what you have to offer.

There is something disturbing about this composition for me. And after having thought of that, I realize that there is not enough sky. No, I´m not meaning that there should be less water, but that there should be more sky.

Surprisingly, this picture has TWO subjects. The small boats and the large ships [nothing wrong with that, there is a challenge subject I´ve thinking about]. And the large ships feel constrained with the top or the lack of top sky.

Otherwise, the other colour composition note could have been that of the yellow line. Cranes and yellow ship form a yellow body that DOES NOT END or cross the frame.

Otherwise, the colour composition and richness are quite all right.
Cheers!

Photoshop is your best friend here.

Clone away those dark grey clouds on the right-middle section of the photo. They get disturbing as being dust or dirt for a photo that I guess wants to show a silhouette, rather than a landscape.

This is very important for such graphic shots: they MUST be as clean as possible.

The sunset day before last was pretty. Often times when I am shooting a sunset I'll turn toward the east and find the light doing some pretty things. I liked the reflections off the windows of the homes on the hill behind me and the big pink cloud. Sorry this is posted larger than normal. The way I sized it, it was either this or too small to see the homes reflections well.

WSSA #181 Pentax Chapter

Camden town, London.

Processed in Lightroom, mainly to retrieve shadow detail in the couple. I wasn't too worried about blowing the highlights. The figure on the left has had some negative 'clarity' to lessen his presence.

Great shot Ryan. The light is nicely balanced across the frame, the bright streaks of cloud on the left are a counterpoint to the sunset. And I like the way sunset is offset from the centre. Also the way the hills recede in tone. Can't see much wrong at all, well done!

Taken on the Oregon Coast in mid July. This was my favorite from that night. K200d and Sigma 17-70
Love the colours and atmosphere, but the composition lacks the 'wow' factor - the silhouette does not have a key visual element to focus on. I think it could be improved by isolating a few stalks in a tighter arrangement.

Robert,

I am not sure how much I like this image it is sharp and colorful, but the two boats both compete for my attention and I find the yellows a bit over saturated. sorry, just doesn't do much for me. Did you take one with just one boat?

Ryan,

Really like this shot, the sky is just right, I do find the crop slightly too tight on the bottom, just a hair more sea in the foreground would balance the sky nicely. Just me and my 2 cents FWIW.
