One of my images from one of the challenges was STOLEN by a low life son of a itch and, posted at a photo sharing site called DCFever.com

I posted this in STF also to warn them as well!

This REALLY pi_sses me off!!! I am posting this as a warning to ANYONE and everyone on STF to be Very careful what you post on the internet, where you post it and, who you are allowing to view it.

I will no longer be posting any image of note to the challenges....
no more!!

Sure, this could happen to ANYone, anywhere, at anytime. The fact is though... it happened HERE at STF challenge and, if that person can steal MY image, he can steal yours also and pawn it off as HIS image as he did with my image.

SOmeone was nice enough at usefilm.com to tip me off as the the theft and misrepresentation of my image on the DCFever.com website. This is SUCH a bummer and really is discouraging to me to say the least.

The important thing is: make sure if you ARE going to share an image, that it's not one that is very important to you!!! I'm not discouraging you from posting at the STF challenge...... just telling you to beware WHAT you upload to make sure it's an image you really do not care to much about!!!

here's the link to the jerk to stole my image, along with images of OTHER STF MEMBERS IMAGES: Klaus Weise, Roberta F and a few others.

And since the site takes SO long to open, here's the image place holder where my WAS posted.......

and a second image showing the comments about the stealing of my image

AND, the actual image he STOLE and presented as HIS

I will tell you this: I will track down this low life and, I will sue him for ANYTHING I can get....... anything!

Sorry to put a damper on your day......... mine also! :-(

Hi, Mark ! I'd like to know - what's real problem with it? I mean - you have your ORIGINAL, and as I belive - EXIF data can always proof of Camera Body No. - LAST line of data in canon software , is that right? So? Seems like no problem - you always have the Copyright to it, and you can even bring him to justice, don't you?

The problem is, it WAS stolen by somone and pawned off as THEIR image..... that's the problem.

And yes, I can and I WILL bring this person to justice / or their knees, whichever comes first but, not necessarily in that order!!! lol

Sorry to here about that Mark. This happened to me under different circumstances. the sad thing is there is not much you can do about it in reality. What I don't understand is why someone would do that just to win a contest, something seriously wrong with this person.

I sympathise with you entirely. My website has a number of unique photos and a while back a British newspaper ripped one of them and used it on their own website to illustrate an article.

When I tackled them about it they came over all innocent and said Sorry. It was obvious that a newspaper should know copyright law so they finally paid me £50 UK for the image, with a link to my website.

Now I have a copyright messge on all my web pictures with a message if the right click is used. I know it cannot stop the real hacker but it is all I can do without spending a lot of money.

I can only suggest you put copyright messages on all your images.

John

where can i find the script for that "no-right-click" thing?

Thanks.

This is why I suspended the posting of public photos on my online gallery. People steal the images (I've had this happen twice) and I even had an ex-co-worker download photos of my family, then deface them and send them to current co-workers.

To all -- be careful who you share your photos with...

Mark J,

There have been lots of images stolen from pbase as well. It is one thing for someone to steal your work and post it to a website, but another to steal your work and sell it for profit as stock photography. This is just another reason to make sure you upload images no greater than 600 x 800 pixels in size to pbase or any other web photo site that is open to the public. If someone is going to submit your work as stock photography, they will need the full sized image to do them any good. This is what was happening at pbase. The thefts were all of full sized images!

Sorry to hear of your problem, Mark. I would be outraged on one hand, but also flattered on the other. You gotta admit, this thief has good tastes in recognizing good photography!

Cheers,

jim

That's really annoying. It's too bad some people's first reaction is to steal good work, not compliment it for what it is. That is a great picture and I'd hate to have someone else represent it as their own if I had taken it!

Has anyone tried using watermarks? I know Adobe PS offers links to Digimarc. I know one of their services is spidering the web for your watermarks and reporting them back to you. It sounds like for situations like this it might be worth the expense.

i personally hate the no-right click things. it doesn't enforce anything, only annoys users.

imo, a copyright message is more effective.

I can understand your annoyance about not having your photo properly acknowledged but keep your hair on. If you put your work into the public domain without a proper safeguards this will happen sooner or later. Regard this as a lesson learned.

PS - brave words but your chances of sueing for damages are negligible. The actual costs entailed would make such action unwise particularly as they don't live up the road from you!

If they are using internet explorer6 / windows XP, they have a ........

"image bar" that can assist them in saving YOUR image to THEIR hard drive and go completely around your right clicking thing! :-)

Sorry

they have NO talent of their own, Mike and......

they just can't stand it anymore, so they steal OTHER peoples work they can call their very own!!!!!!!

Very sad but think about this.........

how many countries are their in this world? How do you know that someone else say in Coppenhagen has not ALSO stolen my image?
This guy happens to be in China or at least posted to a china website.

See my point?

It' like someone cheating on golf the real loser is the person
cheating. I don't understand how one can be so stupid to take
credit for someone elses work.

Just so you know: copyright law in the U.S. and internationally now.........

has a MINIMUM $10,000 U.S. dollar fine for copyright infringement........

EVEN if the image was not actually sold for profit or at all. Just the stealing of it alone...... warrants the fine!!!!!!!!

Thanks for trying to make me feel better with your kind words about my work but, this is not a good day to accept compliments.... I'm in a bummed mood now. Thank you anyway.
