To be or Not To be .... just make it...

so you..............

finished installing vmware fusion

(did you reboot here?)

started vmware fusion

clicked on File -> New.... (brings up Create Virtual Machine Assistant)

and followed along w/ the prompts???????????

I'm wondering if possibly this has anything to do with the fact that till just the other day it was against The Rules to use Vista home editions for virtualization. I know neither Parallels nor vmware would support it, but AFAIK they didn't actually do anything to keep you from using it. (Microsoft just did a volteface on this a week or so ago, so you're legal now.)

i did not reboot. it asked me to setup the virtual machine and i went through the steps. ask for dvd i put it in. nothing happens just spits out the dvd.

I don't know about that. I was aware that M$ did an aboutface on Vista virtualization but I didn't think there were any technical barriers, just the EULA.

Fusion v1.1.1 doesn't break out Vista support into Basic, Home, Mega, SuperMega, SuperMegaUltra, SuperDuperUltraMega, Supreme, MegaSupreme. It just says it supports Vista.

I just went to vmware.com and downloaded their latest pdf file of compatible OS's and sorry to say that they seemingly do not support Vista Basic or Home in 1.1.1.
They say Vista Enterprise, Business & Ultimate only.

Given the change to M$'s position in late January, I'd imagine that vmware will modify Fusion to permit Basic/Home.

perhaps an email to tech support is in order?

I had trouble using the actual install disk for XP Pro, but I made an .iso disk image of the disk and put it on the desktop, and then Fusion found it and loaded it, no problem. Don't know if this would work with Vista.

Only my opinion. It's worth what you paid for it. Your mileage may vary! ;-}

how do i make an iso image of the disk? seems like nothing reads it on my mac. + i am a pc guy so i am a little lost on the mac os.

thanks

You can use "Disk Utility" to make a disk image, however, I think the best thing you can do quickly is to call or email VMware and describe the issue to them. They are very helpful in getting things set up.

i think i am getting closer. i returned the disc and got another one and it seems to be installing now. i will post back when running. thanks

okay i got it running with qimage. thanks for the help. now i am wondering how do i transfer files between my mac hard drive into the virtual machine so i can print them?

thanks

make sure to install vmtools first.

fusion can have shared folders so you can do that or I think you can simply drag in/out

Hi,

Check your mail... I am about to try the same thing you are doing.

All my color correction and image editing with CS3.. even my soft proofing will be done on the Mac OSX Tiger side of the house. I am thinking that once I have the image looking the way I want it I just transfer to Qimage in Win-XP and print it... with it doing its automatic upsizing magic..

Is this just wishful thinking?

hi!
no, it is not.
i just don't care how my pictures look in windows.

if you set up the right profile for your printer and paper qimage will match how your pictures look on the mac side just fine.
at least it does for me!

i am going to have to agree. everything looks pretty good when printing through Qimage. so far i have no complaints about it.

thanks

Have either of you installed Parallels? I currently have Parallels installed and have had no luck getting my Epson 2200 to print through Parallels. I, too, want to use Qimage and am about to try VMWare. I am just a little uncertain about installation after I have installed Parallels. Any advice?
Thanks
