Hi Guys & Gals,

Just upgraded from Sony A9 to A9 ii and have a few setup questions relating to features the A9 didn't have.
  • I'm guessing most people switch on the sensor anti dust feature as I see the risk of damaging the shutter minimal, at least with my handling of the camera?
  • Anti flicker
    • Is it recommended to always have this feature switched on when shooting indoors and using mechanical shutter or are people more selective about when and when not to use it?
  • High frequency flicker:
    • Another option when you want to use electronic shutter and helps deal with high frequency lights such as LED's, but do you only use it when your seeing flicker through the viewfinder or in shots?
I also have an A7Riv, my understanding is the A9ii should have the edge in image quality (resolution aside) when shooting at high iso's in low light conditions. I've looked at DPR's Image Comparison Tool and there isn't a huge difference in my eyes, but the A9ii seems to retain contrast and color better imho, is this the general consensus?

Any other tidbits regarding the A9ii setup vs the A9 that I should be aware of?

Regards,

Kevin

Hi Guys & Gals,

  • Currently, the antidust is NOT turned on in my a9 II.
  • Anti flicker> * Is it recommended to always have this feature switched on when shooting indoors and using mechanical shutter or are people more selective about when and when not to use it?
    • Yes, just per the instructions, I did turn this on...just in case in my a9 II.
  • High frequency flicker:> * Another option when you want to use electronic shutter and helps deal with high frequency lights such as LED's, but do you only use it when your seeing flicker through the viewfinder or in shots?
    • Haven't planned on using the electronic shutter.
NO...the a9 II has the "antialiasing filter", the a7R IV does...not. Therefore, the a7R IV shots will be slightly sharper than the same picture from the a9 II.
Any other tidbits regarding the A9ii setup vs the A9 that I should be aware of?
Watch a few YouTube videos. Get some ideas from them. I did, worked out well after a couple of videos and some experimentation.
