Thinking of reprocessing this

I shot this video using a Canon 5D Mark II with a Canon 100-400mm lens. As you can tell from the dialog, I didn't know if it would turn out. The moon was only a day and a half old, so maybe the glow from the sun would be too bright to see either the moon or Mars. But I tried anyway, pointing in the direction where I figured the action would be. I took some stills when I thought the moon should be in view before I actually saw it (you can tell from the dialog when I first saw it).

Anyway, I'm thinking of reprocessing the video, mostly to get rid of those vertical bars. Does anyone have an effective solution? I believe I used Vegas and probably a time-based denoising software Neat Image/Neat Video or something like that. I've since moved away from Windows to Macs and don't even own a functional Windows machine anymore.

There are a couple of cool things I like about this video that were not planned. "Mars should be right ...." Just at that moment, the aircraft that looks kind of like a UFO is right by Mars. Also the music ends nicely at the same time the video ends. That was the house music playing at the Oasis restaurant overlooking Lake Travis.

What's the original format? How about a "dump" from MediaInfo to clarify that point?

I only see a 720p recording.

I'll have to dig up the original file from archives. It was shot on the Canon 5D Mark II I believe at 1080P 30 fps. Here is a page with more details on the camera's capabilities. I did not load any special OS onto the camera. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EOS_5D_Mark_II

Whatever the cameras capabilities are, only the actually used and recorded format counts ;-)

Yeah, my point is that the stock options are limited. The output video was 720P because of the noise. I recorded at 1080P (maximum available) to get the most detail possible. I don't have MediaInfo.

I'll try to find the original footage by this weekend. I didn't imagine that knowing the original format would be required for a suggestion of how to remove the vertical lines.

MediaInfo is a really valuable tool available as a free download:

I have learned to not waste time on “assumed formats”. In this case, you need to get hold of the original media anyway, so what’s the problem?

my other laptop resolves it but has all this afterwards.

I found another vimeo URL on the dpreview, it does the same thing , so it's not your link.

Must be me - I haven't done anything crazy in a while.... I had all ads blocked, so it is blocked. Haven't seen this anywhere else though.

The url doesn't resolve - ads are blocked.

FPN or Fixed Pattern Noise.

The vertical bars.

These are very difficult to get rid of.

As you've learned, regular noise reduction doesn't work.

You can look up dark frame subtraction but you'd need access to the actual camera you shot with for that to work.

That would not work. I do have access to the camera, but I say it wouldn't work because the bands move over time. It's not a simple pattern that remains the same throughout the clip.

Another reason to reprocess is to insert the stills where the stills were taken, resized to the video dimensions, of course.

It looks like they don't move to me. This is FPN.

You also have other noise and compression going on that's generating the sense of movement, but those vertical bands are the same. That kind of noise can be cleaned up with conventional NR
