I just received the D7 yesterday and it is a technological wonder compared to the G1.

Other than the battery issue ( I am using 1600 NimH) she is a beauty. Those of you who are complaining about AF should try the Canon G1, the D7 is way better.

I love the design and the feel of the camera, Manual focus is magnificent but the screw is a little bit too loose, and the EVF is fantastic, I have never seen anything like that and I dont really care for the LCD anymore other than for reviewing the photos.

Its amazing what these japanese engineers achieved in a few months, my 8-months old G1 now looks ancient.
and above all, the PICTURES ARE WAY BETTER than the G1.

The only real problem is the power issue, my 1600 NIMH lasted for 24 LCD shots and 50 EVF shots and lots of deletion. On my G1 I rarely charge the battery.

Anybody tried the QB1c on the D7. I know Bo Ericksson is waiting for his quantum to arrive and will test it for us, but I cant wait and I was going to order one from Epperson's tomorrow along with the Minolta external power supply until I read people complaining about the unity digital problems, I hope these problems dont exist in the quantum, but their website doesnt provide real technical information about the specs of the QB1c, and wheteher it is regulated or not ( Thanks JAKE)

What strikes me is why the D7 got a ' recommended' while the G1 got a ' Highly recommended', maybe I shoulnt be wondering because they are in totally different categories.
Bottom line is : if you can afford it you will love it, go ahead and grab one.

Hatem,

There have been threads recently that suggest somel chargers are better at conditioning batteries than others. Apparently some users are getting better battery performance by switching to better chargers (and better batteries, perhaps). You might search the forum for those discussions, it might help in your situation.

Regards,
Scotty

I have the Quantum QB1C, and it drives the D7 (with the MDC4 cable) and the 5600 (with the XKZ2 cable) at the same time. I don't have any technical expertise, but it works fine and charges quickly.

For some reason, when the QB1C is powering the 5600 in manual mode, the 5600 fires once and turns itself off. I then have to turn it back on each time. Only in manual. Odd.

aturoff,
This is very important, please tell me the following (today if posible):

1. How many photos does the camera take with the QB1c with the LCD on and with the EVF on ???

2. Do you have to buy a specific cord to connect it to the camera or is the one coming with the quantum compatible with the dimage ??

Only 2 ideas a about the batteries:
1) a try a better charger, microcontrolled
2) discharge the batteries completely before to charge it.

They should last longer at least 100% more.

I'm sorry, I just got your post. I don't know how many photos it will take with the LCD on. All I know is that it's good knowing the power is there if I need it - especially since I don't have an A/C adapter yet. You do need a specific cord (the MDC4) to connect it to the D7.

Hope this helps.
