I have been going around and posting on a number of different forums recently as I am (or shortly will be) in the market for a new, small camera to supplement my larger (but not huge) Sony RX10iv. But I want something light and semi-pocketable rather than a phone for every day use.
I am mainly a stills photographer (with an occasional foray into video) and amongst the cameras I have been considering (as an example) is the new Canon Powershot V1 which Canon market mainly for vlogging (which is absolutely fine) but I have noticed recently on the Powershot forum there are quite a number of posts relating mainly to its video capabilities. This is quite understandable as it seems a reasonable number of people are looking at its photographic capabilities as well (as indeed I am doing) but have nowhere else to post regarding the capabilities and operation of this new model.
I'd like members to post their opinions whether such cameras (of which there will surely be more) should have their own separate forum. Current and new posts could be moved to the 'Digital Video Talk' forum but I think digital video is not the same as vlogging except maybe in the equipment used (but not in subject matter?)
The alternative is to leave well alone and base forums just on manufacturer but I would argue that there are many forums already based on subject matter and other criteria (action cameras, medium format, drones etc) and it would seem to me that vlogging deserves its own forum irrespective of manufacturer and would benefit users from many other user groups (Sony comes to mind) who want peers to discuss their vlogging hobby/business with.
Is this a reasonable idea or not? No offence taken if you disagree
Regards,
John
