Severe head clog from automatic nozzlecheck prints

I have my printer (Epson P900) print nozzlechecks automatically, as a preventive measure against head clogs.

Recently this setup turned against me and produced a head clog of its own.

A sheet of paper catched inside the printer, producing a paper jam in the middle of the night. I wasn't around to notice until 4 days later. During all that time, the head was not parked in its idle position. It remained on the opposite end of the rail, waiting for me to clear the paper jam.

The incident left the nozzles exposed to the elements, most notably to dry air.

After clearing the crumpled sheet, a subsequent nozzlecheck came out completely blank. It took two "powercleanings" to completely recover, the equivalent of about 1 ink cartridge.

Sharing this so you can revisit your own procedures for unexpected failure modes.
