I've just been told my EP7 is ugly and the Pen D3 looks cool while out at a bar.

First of all, they look basically the same. Secondly, the E-P7 looks way better.

Settle argument please.

The E-P7 is ugly because you went and stuck a Panasonic lens on it.😊

The one on the right is better looking. But that might be because it has a Panasonic lens mounted. :-D

I would say that the E-P7, on its own, with the right lens, would look quite cool. Sitting it right along side the real deal is just makes it look like an imitation.

The D3 proportions, including the lens, are more in balanced and the whole thing has a very cool 1960's look. The lens has very cool looking lettering and stripes. The little touch of red is an awesome detail. The height of the top plate and the thickness of the bottom plate are nicely balanced. The leatherette is sympathetically patterned. It's dainty.

On the other hand. The lens isn't helping the E-P7, it could look a lot more retro with the right lens. The left right asymmetry of the top plate doesn't help. The bottom plate is too thin. The leatherette is nothing special. It's clunky (in comparison).

I would go with the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 or maybe one of the small third party lenses such the Laowa 7.5 f/2 fully manual.

I agree with you... The old Pen F isn't exactly ugly, but I think that the E-P7 is actually the more attractive piece. It doesn't look so much differnt than my Pen F, though I have to admit that I've been thinking about selling that thing off to fund the purchase of a less pretty, but more practical EM1 mkII... I do think that Olympus, along with Fuji and Leica make the finest looking digital cameras available.

The pen d3 is ugly, as is the lens on the ep7.

Mount a silver P 20/1.7 mark II, and the ep7 becomes a beauty.

I forgot how nice the EP7 looks. If only the dang thing had an EVF rather than a flash I would get one.

It's not as nice looking as the Pen-F, but at least it doesn't have that useless art dial to dig into your finger.

Neither camera is as comfortable or as functional as an EM5 though... But I really wish they would tone down the fussy styling on this one and cut out all the necessary little... cutouts.

Olympus knows how to make beautiful and functional cameras, maybe someday they'll get both right on one body.

My vote is for the P7. I wish more people brought and critiqued cameras in bars around me. Then again....I don't really go to bars that much any more.

I like the E-P7 too. I was hanging out for an OM-PEN but what did we get, the OM-5, which nothing more than a rebadged what would have been an E-M5 Mk IV.

I prefer the looks of the E-M1 Mk III to both, but of the two you asked about I agree that EP-7 is the better-looking camera body.

I also agree with jjmarz above that the Lumix lens should be replaced with a real Olympus or OMDS lens. The 150-400 would look nice. :-)

They both look ugly.

Put something like this onto the E-P7. Done!

Too be honest its the lens on the EP7 that spoils the look, if it had a more classic lens fitted then the EP7 would look as cool as the Pen D3 :)

The D3 looks old. I'm starting to look old. Therefore, the D3 is by far the handsomer one.

Only one of these cameras is a rangefinder. Vintage real is so much cooler than new faux.

The D3 is authentic but obsolete, attractive to people who want to use vintage equipment. The faux retro styling of the EP is designed to attract people who want modern reproductions.

Compare an original Hasselblad film camera with an XD2.

My preference is for form to follow function and for form to make best use of modern design, materials and manufacturing processes.

I was very tempted by the recent U.K. offer on an EM5.3 with 12-45 bundle, but the EM5 design is a real turn off for me.

Everyone has their own preferences and fashion plays a role.

One of my colleagues once described his businesses product strategy as “to die with our customers”. That was about adhesives, but it can apply to any kind of product.

So, for me it’s the D3, but in a museum.

I think the E-P7 looks better in that view, but the lens better on the old Pen

I've spent time around people who study style and fashion. The correct answer is that there is no wrong answer regarding 'beauty'.

IMHO the hockey puck takes a lot away from the Pen 7. A silver finish 17/1.8 or 12/2.0 will fix that and then you have a contest.

Cheers,
