Search google for plugins for Adobe. There are many free ones that allow you to do this.

Hey, Butch!

Doesn't PSE have FIlter/Effects/Sepia menu item? I don't have Elements here with me now, but even the simplest photo editors usually have that effect..

That is, of course, unless you're talking about some advanced duotone conversion. Then it can become cumbersome.. I would not dare to give advices at my current level of postprocessing knowledge. But there are plenty of books which can help you with that...

Good luck!

if youd have used the search feature, you would have found plenty of posts around here.

this should be enough to start you off:

Here is my process, more or less, using Elements 2:

Step 1 - start with a color image

Step 2 - Image > Gradient Map > Choose Black and White

I seem to be the only one in the world that converts to B&W this way. I do it because it retains good contrast and never brings out any noise. Occasionally you will use some shadow detail with this method, in that case, use levels to bring it back.

You now have a B&W image

Step 3 - Use Variations (under Adjustments> Color) to tone the image. I generally put it on the lowest intensity and do two reds and two yellows or so...this varies by image. Please note, this image shows the Variations menu of Photoshop CS, the Elements one looks slightly different.

Step 4 - You now have a sepia image

Use Hue and Saturation to fine tune it to exactly the tone you want.

First, thank you for these fine ideas.

In PSE2 when I get into "variations" I do not get a box to "increase yellow". Maybe there is a preference setting I am missing?

I have tried various combinations, and one or two "increase red"s followed by one or two "decrease blue"s seems to give a good sepia tone.

I did play with "decrease green" but did not like the result.

I am not too versed in RGB seperation and blending, so wondered if you think the "decrease blue" is the best substitution for "increase yellow".

thanks again, very helpful for me.

i just did it in pse. instead of increase yellow. try decrease blue. and add a little red. it worked just great! thanks for the feedback again.

PS.......
ANDY,

i hope you had a nice visit to San Francisco. I have lived here all my life. I saw a few of the pics uve posted on this forum that u took during your visit. Great captures!! Im trying to capture those types of images with my v1. I dont know if oyu have seen my San Francisco Gallery in Pbase. But i would sure appreciate some feedback from you and others who are good critics. im thinking of getting a f717 because of its price and excellent pic quality. The f828 is also nice, but 8mp is too much...i just need around 5 to 6. anywayz......its fun being a part of this forum. keep the posts rolling

My bad, "Decrease blue" is the equivalent of increase yellow, that's what you should use. I think they don't have an add magenta either, that should be decrease green.

i use ps cs, but i have elements, too.

you can use this very easy method, try it

use your b&w conversion of choice, then

layer> new layer
choose a shade of brown from the color picker
dump the paint bucket on this new layer
change layer blending to "overlay"
adjust opacity to taste

voila

this does indeed work and is easy. I am having a time finding a shade of brown that I like, but this is so flexible that many other tonings besides sepia should be possible. (right?)

appreciate the workflow.

One possibility to play with is a free plugin I wrote a little while ago. See:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1006&message=9120479

Also, there was a mini-challenge on Sepia a few weeks ago (#29?) - I'm sure a search on that or just "sepia" would turn up lots of options.
