(Just cross-posted this in Accessories, where it should have been in the first place....) Anyone have any experience with this new SD reader to USB-C accessory from Anker? It looks like a very compact design for on-the-go-backups. https://www.anker.com/products/a83d1-maggo-usb-c-adapter

I work with extremely compact and light gear, much of my photo work is done while walking. With the introduction of USB-C on iPhones with version 15, I got a Pro with 256GB storage specifically for this purpose. Have tried importing from SD card using Lightroom Mobile, still not sure that's the best workflow. This is for short term backup while working, I transfer the day's files to another device in the evening.

Most of what I've read about this add-on discusses it in context of recording video: Petapixel Has anyone else tried it primarily for photo backup?

FWIW, maybe six months ago I was looking for an SD card reader that I could plus into the USB-C connection on my phone (a Samsung S22), and I settled on a SanDisk Extreme Pro SD Card USB Type-C Reader ($23 at B&H). It seemed like overall the best choice at the time, considering size, ability to plug into the phone without taking the phone out of its case (which the Xcellon model I first bought would not do), buyer ratings, and price. I still think this is probably the best choice for me. That said, generally I've had good experiences with Anker products.

You'd think that, at least with a modest number of photos, wireless transfer from the camera to the phone would be the way to go. And that works okay--it's a bit slow and clunky--with my Canon compacts and the Canon Camera Connect app. The corresponding Sony app is a disaster; I have made it work, but it's so cumbersome and awful that I'd rather pop out the card and use the reader, even if I only want to transfer one or two photos. YMMV.
