I thought I would also share this photo here. It is from the end of 2024 solar eclipse totality (C3) from Coaticook Quebec, just E of Montreal. The double star Renati (Zeta Piscium) is visible just a few hours before it was then eclipsed by the sun (click to zoom in to see the full view):

Diamond ring and Renati (upper left).

This website said Renati wouldn't be visible. It may not have been visible with the naked eye, but it appeared in all of my longer bracketed exposures. This is one of them (not stacked).

I drove NE all day to keep the approaching high clouds in my rearview mirror, and ended up crossing the border into Canada. I stopped to set up just before C1, but didn't get shooting until a little after. It was obviously clear there through totality, but the clouds did move across the sun between C3 & C4.

Did anyone else see this?

WOW. Yes, I captured it also, but assumed is was a stuck pixel. It is nestled in the limits of the corona about 2 solar radii from the Sun's limb, at 10 o'clock. You can see two of the components of this complex star system.

Not only that, but you can also see 88 Piscium, a 6th magnitude object. It is a third of a solar radius above the ".com" part of my copyright.

This was taken with a 480 mm, f/6 telescope and a Nikon Z8. Exposure was 1/10 sec at ISO 64. I did some quick enhancement using LR, PS and Viveza. I probably have it on another 40 or so images at 1/10 sec as wells well above and below that.

Thanx for pointing this out!

Oh yes, I got that one too! I had to increase exposure, put a radial filter around it, and decrease the edge darkening to show it (you need to click through to get to the original jpeg to really see it):

I think it's interesting that we have three things moving at different apparent speed in these photos. Here are the rise and set times for each at my location on April 8, and the rise time on April 9:

06:20 19:41 06:41Moon
06:24 19:29 06:22 Sun
06:29 19:30 06:25 Revati

So the moon rose before the sun and set after it because the sun's apparent motion is faster (the moon will rise later and the sun will rise earlier the next day). That's why third contact is at the lower right, closer to the western horizon in this image aligned with local gravity in the afternoon. Revati and the other stars appear to be moving slightly faster than the sun. It set just after the sun on this day, and is heading for eclipse behind the sun at around sunrise on the next day.

Here is an HDR stacked composite I captured in north Texas (Everman, Texas) during totality.
