I know there's a remote shutter release available for the D7Hi, but somehow I'm missing it when I search the Minolta site and the B&H Photo site. Can someone tell me a catalog number and/or a place to buy this remote release? Thanks - Bill Hansen

You could just make one.

I've heard complaints from people that the ones available are either too long or short..
pin 1 is common
pin 2 is focus lock
pin 3 shutter

a computer cdrom cable to a audio card works..
you might need to cut off a section to fit.
Telephone cable works good.
You could use something nicer..
buttons are less than a buck a piece.

For something easy to play with.. just get any old wire, strip the ends..
touch pin 1 and 2 and watch the camera focus lock.
Hopefully, you'll get inspired and realize it's not so hard to make your own.

Search on the B and H Photo site for "Remote Cord RC-1000L"

Sacha,

Your pinout is just a little bit different then the one I found on this site:

So who should I believe ;-)

Interesting.. Possible the could have changed it for the 7h over D7 or the websites wrong.
But.... so what.. grab a wire and see for yourself.. not gonna hurt anything.

The box is not that big. You could hide it in your hand. I went for the longer one (16 feet) which is the one with the letter L at the end of the model # and it works fine... chas

I was about to make a new switch etc but ran out of time so bought the short release cut the wire in half then put in a 3mm male and female jack.

Now you can use any number of standard 3mm jackplug stereo extensions of any length to suite your job.

For once I went for the simple solution and it works great.

I don't think anyone really knows which pin is common and which is focus. But it doesn't matter. Connect pin 1 to pin 2 to focus. After you focus, connect pin 3 to both of the other pins to release the shutter. After the shot, disconnect pin 3 first, then pins 1 and 2.

Here's my version of a home made cable release:

Yes, I love the RC-1000L that I bought. I am also terrible at modifying things, when I modified the battery pack I bought, I messed up one of the ends so I had to go digging. Luckily, There happens to be a second cord with the same end on it so I used that one, and didnt mess up that time...the box is very small and fits nice in your hand, the other nice thing is that the button locks, which most homemade ones do not. This allows you to use bulb exposures without getting a blister on your thumb after a few shots... Go for it, you wont be disapointed
Thanks to those who replied. I'm not at all handy with soldering
wires etc - so I'll go with the one from B&H. Somehow I had missed
it when I searched there. - Bill

I am agree with matt. I am in thailand and i use 7Hi for a year. Factory made remore have a lock feature that is better.. the remote is quite small to hold but it's ok... same feeling as on camera shutter.

Look for RC1000 L (5 meter cord) or S (50 cm).

By the way, I had one made based on the drawing in one of the earlier discussions for about 20 euro, say 20-25 dollars. The Minolta RC would be in the range of $40.

Bill, I notice in a later comment you don't like to solder. But,
just in case you should want to try, take a look at this site for a
wireless remote:

Don't know what to say, I went to that URL and it, the device, is no longer for sale????

I have made my own, with Radio Shack parts, three button control so that I can lock the exposure/focus as well. Use CD audio cable, double AA cell box and use RJ11 connectors to use same Control end but with different cable lenghts, works great.

The RF unit would be nice, but???

Rolf, that much. Further question, the second unit appears to only provide a single level of control, or did I miss something???

Thanks
