Just back from a really magical trip to Redwoods National and State Parks. This is one place where rain is your friend and my favorite pictures were taken on the rainiest day. I'd appreciate any constructive criticism. I found it challenging to capture the essence of the incredible forest but I was pleased overall with my pictures. If anyone wants to see more, here is a link to my Flickr album for the trip: https://www.flickr.com/photos/128265003@N07/albums/72157708770593732

Thanks for taking a look!

I thought finding a good composition with the rhododendrons was tough but I was happy to see them blooming in spots!

Along the Boy Scout Trail in the rain. This was my favorite trail in the parks.

Boy Scout Trail.

Finally caught the sun bursting through the fog on my last day. Lady Bird Johnson Grove.

Very nice!! Redwoods and Sequoia NP's and SP's are on my list for 2021.

Enjoy! I found it incredibly beautiful, more so when wet. The coast was amazing too!

Wonderful!! Ah!! rhododendrons is on my to-do list!

I like the 1st and the last most.

How's rhododendrons blooming right now?

I was so happy to see them blooming. I thought they were spotty, fully open in some spots (Hiauchi Trail and JS Campground) and just budding other places. They never seemed to be blooming in areas where you could get both Rhododendrons and Redwoods. A magical place in any case though. Enjoy!

The flowers are pretty, but the shot does nothing for me. Though you found a strong diagonal and the foreground is is nicely sperated from the background, the composition is fairly mundane.

Along the Boy Scout Trail in the rain. This was my favorite trail in the parks.
Much better. I like the range of tones in the background trees,it creates depth and interest better than the fairly flat value of the first image. The path winding through the scene and the fallen log both add depth and create a nice, even transition from foreground, through middle to back. And the misty softness of the trees in the back and the pop of the colour in the front add the the separation as well.

Boy Scout Trail.
Same notes for this one. The longer section of straight trial adds a little more perception of depth in this one. Both this and the preceding one are very nice.

Finally caught the sun bursting through the fog on my last day. Lady Bird Johnson Grove.
This one is my favourite. The receding trial and the strong contrast make for a nice dynamic image.

#2 very moody and my favorite. Nice exposure. Thanks!

Hi VermontSue,

Very nice set, I can see the dampness, and the last one is special.

Thanks so much for taking the time to look critically. I have so much to learn. I agree that the rhododendrons were uninspiring. I liked the others better also. I struggled to get the light right in the last one, bracketed all the shots so good to know I captured some of the magic happening that morning.

Great shots. 2nd is my favorite. I have a complete mental block when it comes to Redwoods.

I'm the odd man out. #3 is my favorite.

Very good series. Like #2 the best. Looks like something from Lord Of The Rings. Can just see the Hobbits walking down the trail.

Nice set of photos. It was overcast/raining the times we were there.
