I have just downloaded a free trial of the latest update of PSP X2 ultimate and it handles my SD9 captured RAW X3F files fine. All the adjustments seem to work and you can then save in any of about 20 formats.

I hope this is not old news. I searched this forum and the most recent advice I found was that X3F does not open in PSP X2. Ultimate is the most recently released update so maybe it is new to the experts out there.

Whether there is any advantage to tihis over doing the adjustments in SPP and then saving to TIFF or JPEG I will find out during the free trial and report back.

I could not find anywhere in the Corel literature that X3F was supported so I decided to just try it.

I am not sure. Some of the threads seem to imply they are different. I still only have the old first edition SD9. If you post a RAW file from your camera I will try it.

It opened in PSP X2 fine. A small rodent of some kind that we do not have in England.

I will try to put the converted JPG version in Samples and Galleries forum. I say try as I have not done that before.

Well I will have to learn how to post pictures into replies or set up an image gallery another night as its now past my bedtime and I have to go to work early tomorrow. Work is the curse of the photography classes. Meanwhile why not download your own free trial of PSP X2 at http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/gb/en/Product/1208530085925#versionTabview=tab0&tabview=tab6
It is a nice upgrade in my opinion.
Happy PSPing.

It's amazing that as a long-time PSP user, Corel couldn't be bothered telling me about the Ultimate version. This after I emailed their support and asked about X3F support... They never bothered to reply. In the PSP X2 version I am using, if you try to open an X3F file it hangs the program.

BTW: I don't think they would release version that doesn't support SD14 RAWs - seeing as they are boasting "Support for more than 250 camera raw formats".
Are SD14 S3F files different that SD9 S3F files?

yes, files are different; and SD14 X3F RAWs are different from DP1 X3F RAWs too in some respects.

A Photoshop example: note that you can 'open' and 'see' SD14 X3F RAW files with the old ACR version ACR4.0 but it does an awfully bad job of processing them! The first ACR version which supported SD14 RAWs was ACR4.1 of May 2007. Then later ACR4.4 also supported SD14 RAWs but NOT DP1 RAWs. The newest beta ACR4.6 (plus too the new DNG beta, per Adam's post yesterday) supports the DP1 X3F RAWs.

In sum: versions of processors, and what does which for which camera(s), is confusing.
Best regards, Sandy

the same symptoms as many large companies. What used to be a Canadian company with rich support and a willingness to help now has some US firm handling their rebates (took a year to get a rebate that consisted of a $50 Visa card that already had several dollars taken off as a "service fee"), a UK publisher that publishes the "Official" magazines for PSP and Painter, etc.

I found the only place I can get a response is by logging on to their forums and asking the question there. It is a bit convoluted to locate just how to contact support, but they did respond from there.

I find the product to be good, however, like working with the camera equipment I have chosen, there are some "wrinkles" :-)

All the best to you Vitée .

Yes, they are different. This was one of the problems we saw with some early reviews of the SD14. Some of the reviewers used Photoshop CS2 rather than CS3 to convert SD14 X3f files. Although the files would convert, the version of Adobe RAW that was used in CS2 did not fully support SD14 X3F files even though it did for SD9 and SD10 files.

I tired the converter on PSP X2 Ultimate. After converting the files and saving as a TIFF file, the image in the saved file is inverted.

That's weird, Peter. Maybe they forgot to include a pentaprism in
their software.

BTW: What camera were the X3F files from?
SD14. I'll have to try it with an SD9 file. It's really wierd how it just inverts the saved TIFF.

This is getting a little stranger. I reported the TIFF files as being inverted. I see that when I open the files in Photoshop. However, when I open the TIFF files in PSP and even in Olympus Studio 2, the image is not inverted. Seems to be a Photoshop issue and it is not confined to X3F files. I took an Olympus RAW file and converted it in PSP, saved as TIFF, and then viewed in Photoshop - the image is inverted.

Just tested the PSP X2 Ultimate. Can't open the DP1 X3f files, in fact I don't see X3F as a file type.
