Qimage - Is anything wrong?

I have been using Qimage for over 15 years & consider it excellent. It has always fulfilled my printing requirements & has been totally reliable.

The program has been regularly updated at intervals of no more than a few weeks.

However, I have noticed that the last update was on the 26th May. The current version is working fine for me but I am concerned as to why there have been no further updates since. It may be because the Qimage owners consider the current version perfect or, more likely, something has happened to owner Mike Chaney. I hope he is OK & the future of Qimage is secure but am beginning to become concerned that all may not be well.

Does anyone know what, if anything, has happened in the past 5 months?

There is a post from Mike on his tech support blog dated September 25, 2023. So my guess is that he has taken a break from the frequent updates. Many updates are there to fix bugs. Maybe he has not found any new bugs in the software recently.

I'll go ahead and quote that second (November 19, 2023) post from Mike C. for readers here:
I've been working on the 2024 version that I hope to get out by the end of the month. Just been busy with other things like handling our late Fred's [friend's?] estate. I haven't been in a rush to change things in the interim since 2023.115 has been the most stable version in the long history of Qimage. The 2024 edition will most likely be under-the-hood updates with the latest internals and some tweaks to make things run smoother with the latest Windows 11 updates. The first half of 2024 will bring more exciting stuff.

All,

I hadn't noticed Mikes' posts & am very satisfied with current version of the program. I was just beginning to be concerned for Mike.

Just pleased that he is well. Having a new version to look forward to is a pleasant bonus.

Thanks for your replies.

OK. Just to make me look stupid, the latest update of Qimage is released today.

Thanks Mike!
Canary, by now you know there is a completely different new version available, it's the 2024 Ultimate.

I only know because I've been contemplating buying Q and haven't. But I checked last night and irt was $20 off on BF so I bought it.

Since there is a brand new version out that would explain the lack of work on the old version since all R&D would have being put into the new release along with what any updates you would have received!!!

It will be fun to start to use it and print with it! I don't even know what it does other than it does TWO things I've been needing to do.

IIRC, the basic Qimage pricing model is that buying a basic license gets you one year of whatever newer versions come out during that year. So if you licensed Qimage in April 2023, at that time maybe you got version 2023.107 or whatever--and now you get Qimage version 2024.100, and you'll get whatever versions come out until April 2024. In other words, if a new major / annual version comes out during the time you get updates, then you get the new major / annual version.

When your initial year runs out you can: (1) keep using what you have but cease to receive updates, (2) pay a modest fee (IIRC $20) and get another year of updates, or (3) pay a somewhat larger but still modest fee (IIRC $40 or $50) and get updates forever, or at least for as long as the product is updated. Note too that if you choose option (1), IIRC at any time later you can come back and pay for option (2) or option (3).

I paid for the 'perpetual license / perpetual updates' a while back. I get to use the software as long as my computer(s) will run it and I get updates as long as DDI Software updates it. I think it's an excellent value!

Yes I actually licensed it to include the PS plug-ins and the lifetime upgrades. It was $119 after the BF $20 off! What a deal! I watched a couple of the videos and it does some pretty cool stuff! I mainly wanted it to do canvas prints. It very easily mirrors or stretches the edges for a nice look or just a different edge color which is what I usually do. Oh, and to set my printer up to do an auto print once in a while. Thanks!!!
