PS Elements??

I am looking for a more robust photo editing application to replace my Paint Shop Pro, is PS Elements going to offer me much more? I can't swallow the Photo Shop price tag so Elements is my only option, is it worth the $99 or should I just stick with Paint Shop?

You should be able to get Elements for less than half the cost you quoted. Maybe that will influence your decision. The worst thing about Elements (correct me if I'm wrong) is you can't run actions. The second worse thing is you have no Curves correction command.

Other than that, it's a great prog. Sorry, I've never used PSP. There's a guy on this forum goes by the handle of 3DTim who uses PSP and he produces some nice pictures. We're not sure who he buys them from ;-)

Actions are like Macros (in Excel). Take several steps and combine into one Action. It removes tedious, repetitive work that has been shown to cause carpal tunnel syndrome in laboratory animals.

Amazon had a rebate of their own at one time and then Adobe had one too. If you can get both, you can get Elements 2 for very little. I like it very much, but others swear by PSP.

I got PSE v2.0 from Amazon about a month ago and have been delighted with it. There is a considerable learning curve but these forums help a lot with ideas. Pay attention to discussions about technique for Photoshop as you can do almost everything PS can do using PSE.

PSP until recently was my favorite all-round editing program. Elements has replaced it, in spite of my having PHotoshop 7. I prefer Elements (except when I need things Photoshop has that Elements doesn't...like actions or curves)...because Elements loads faster! (10 vs. 17 seconds)

Right now its $35 with the Adobe rebate and Amazon rebate. I also like it a lot. I had PSP but now use only PS Elements 2

There's no reason for this to become controversial, but there must be preferences and/or options and/or features that heavily affect the startup times. My experience with startup times is different than Isabel's. My PSP7 is ready to go about 6 seconds after I click its desktop shortcut icon, whereas my PS Elements (version 1) takes at least 18 seconds. This is while using a 1.1 GHz Athalon processor. The times don't matter to me either way (I don't charge myself by the clock). I still retain a preference toward using PSP7 over Elements. I think that it's a matter of "bonding" to whatever is used productively first. Now that I know about "curves" and "layers", I wouldn't know how to get along without them (yes, I know that Elements also has "Layers" , but other programs I've tried out do not).

I have PS LE too and it does have curves. Occasionally I use it instead of Elements.
