Printer Profiles and Settings Question

Hi,

I've currently got an entry level Epson ET-2850 with plans to upgrade to the 8550 in the somewhat near future.

While I'm waiting, I went ahead and ordered a sample pack from Red River paper and I figured out how to install the printer profiles and then how to select them in Lightroom

I'm confused about what to do setup in the printer driver itself. In my searching it seems I'm supposed to turn off color management in the driver.

For the tests I've done with B&W, I'm getting some solid results.

Color however is a different story. Its really bad. I was expecting it to print perhaps darker that what I have on screen, but its not just darker. the colors are all wrong.

no, i've not calibrated my screen. However stuff i've edited does maintain color and brightness characteristics from my monitor to phone to ipad without any real noticeable differences

I guess my question is really about how I'm supposed to set things up to use a custom printer profile.

Images below

1. the color management options I've got in the driver (I "assume" they are similar to the 8550?)

2. side by side of two prints.
left is using the Red River Pecos Glossy with that profile selected in Lightroom and color management turned off in driver.
Right is Epson Semi Gloss with "managed by printer" on in Lightroom and "automatic" set in driver for Color Correction

3. Epson paper print side by side with monitor showing its not perfect, but not that far off either

thanks for any advice you can provide (btw - except for casual printing, profiles and all this stuff is super new to me)
