Hi everyone, we had a line of Thunderstorms pass through late this afternoon. It looked like it would only be heavy rain and a little wind. As they approached some lighting started to appear so I grabbed the G9 with the 10-25 f1.7 and waited for the rain to ease so I could grab an image or two.

I framed up, pulled the lens in manual focus and started spaming the shutter at around one and a half seconds exposure time, handheld.

Plenty shots of clouds and then this flashed across the sky...

A great way to start the weekend.

Cheers.

Great image, is that sheet lightning (across the cloud)? I haven't seen lightning like that for years and years in the middle of the UK!

What a fabulous shot. Looks even better when viewed on a full screen. How the lightning patterns illuminate the inside of the storm cloud is fascinating.

Hi Jamie, I believe this is chain lightning, and with a hot summer heading our way Downunder we should be seeing a lot more of it.

Cheers, have a great weekend.

Thanks Martin, I always like to try and get a few images like this when I can. Just have to let the storm pass far enough away that you don't become a kite and a key :-D

Have a great weekend.

Steve.
