Panasonic m43 camera naming is so inconsistent and confusing and bad...

Why is a G9ii a G9ii when the GH7 is not a GH6ii?

The GH7 shares the exact same body style and layout as the GH6, even. Yet the G9ii of course does not share the same body style as the G9.

If the GH6 was not considered a GH5iii because the body style changed and sensor changed, wouldn't that be further reason to designate the new camera a GH6ii?

I'm old enough to remember when Panasonic called its PDAF-equipped successor to the S5 an S5ii instead of an S6. So why is the GH7 not a GH6ii? Was the GH6 too tainted by its DR Boost mishaps and lack of PDAF?

We can go back further and scratch our heads trying to decipher the GX7 vs GX8 vs GX85 vs GX9 debacle... And try to understand the relationship between these designations and the G7, G80/85, G90/95, and G100.

Why did Panasonic choose the much more straightforward GX7 vs GX7ii vs GX7iii designation in Japan but choose these other much more confusing monikers for other markets?

Why was there a need to go from G7 to G80/85 and G90/95 rather than G8 and G9? And for that matter why wasn't the G90/95 a G80ii/G85ii?

What would you even name a successor to the G90/95 at this point if the convention is to add 10 to each release? The G100 name is already now taken?

Panasonic: You make my head hurt so much with your naming.

There is actually a naming convention that Panasonic has, but it's a bit complicated, so you'll have to look it up.

In any case, the reason it's not a GH6Ii, IMO, is that the GH6 had a whole lot of problems, and it was also not a PDAF body ...

So, rather than putting lipstick on a pig, as it were, better to start fresh, ergo the GH7 moniker.

On the other hand, the G9 was a bit of a legendary M43 body, so a mark2 would be a good thing...with the added consideration that a G10 already exists...and it's 14 years old with a 12MP sensor. LOL.

This implies a structured naming scheme is arbitrary and useless

Which again reinforces.the point that the naming scheme is total chaos.
