P-400 people - an index mode question....

Do you use index mode on your P-400? What I'm interested in finding out is if I use it to print thumbnails of a full CF card, directly from the card - 256MB, images at TIFF resolution of 12MB - is this really going to take forever and a day? Couldn't find too much info on the subject on a Google search, except one review that was from end of '00 that said 30 mins for a card full of 2 or 3MB images. That would make what I'm intending to use it for take about 2 hours+. Can this be right? If anyone has experience with this feature, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Oh, also, are the thumbnail images 1x1 or???

I hardly (actually never) print directly from the P-400 card slot. I do however print thumbnails via Qimage to the P-400. It takes about a min. (not including spool time) to print a page out regardless of resolution. I usually do 1.5" x 2" thumbs and get 25 per sheet.

To print a card full of images from the CF or SM card is a waste of a lot of time........even 1 print takes an age (printer has zero processing power).
The best method is to print from a computer via the usb lead.
I use a 1600mhz m/c with 512mb of ram with win xp.

The speed is amazing........only a minute or so from pressing return to a card full of pictures.

Thanks for answering - I only ask the question because I might take the printer on location with me occasionally, and might need to print a sort of "proof" sheet from the card.

I know, I know, the things a heavy beast.
