I have never noticed this before and it may be that it has always behaved like this. Can someone explain to me why when I switch to M, S or A while in shooting mode the screen/EVF has all the settings info displayed around the edge but after a couple of seconds it changes to a blank screen with only the small focus box showing. Turning a dial changes the displayed speed/aperture but only for a second and then reverts to the empty screen again.

What happens when you cycle the info button?

Thank you, that was simple! Three years of owning this camera and still it catches me out almost daily.

As a fellow owner: utterly relatable. Complicated beastie.

Cheers,

The Info button has varying (hidden) uses depending on mode and features in use. For example in Live GND you toggle in and out of the GND placement and camera exposure settings with the info button. Very clever.

You can set what it shows with each press of the INFO button for the LCD, EVF and for Movies in Menu - Gear - Screen 4 for the three Info Settings.

With my E-M1iii the LiveView screen still lights up like a Christmas tree with all info shown for a few seconds when you rotate a dial to change one setting - regardless of the Info setting

It’s annoying when my blank screen with faint stars and deep sky Astro subject becomes ‘blindingly’ bright. Is this still the case with the OM-1 models ?

I don't see any difference in the OM1s. If you have Style 2 as the EVF Style, one of the info button presses should have all the shooting information along the bottom of the EVF and the only thing that should change is the shutter speed or aperture or compensation value at the bottom as you move the dial.

I’d like a completely blank Live View screen and when I change shutter speed and/or ISO - which I often do when shooting Astro - the only display I want to pop up is the parameter I’m changing. Instead everything pops up around the entire periphery of the screen.

I just tried a EVF Style-2 (I normally use 3) and it makes no difference to the rear screen display. And in the EVF it doesn’t give me the option of a blank screen.

Try this:
  1. Set this menu item to On1: MENU ➡️ ⚙️ ➡️ 4. Information ➡️ Info by half-pressing [shutter button]
  2. Cycle the INFO button until you’re at the image only display.
It won’t get rid of everything you’re seeing when you turn a dial, but hopefully fewer items will be displayed than what you’re used to.

I am not sure about the E-M1.3 for the LCD back screen, but the OM1 Info Settings gives a back screen LCD with only the image. Changing the shutter speed/aperture/compensation only shows that change momentarily while you make the change and does not show any other information.

If you change the mode dial PASM then you will initially get the full information until you half press the shutter button.

The OM1s have separated the INFO settings for EVF, LCD, and Movie. You may be able to do this with the E-M1.3, but I am not sure which settings would need to be changed.

Thanks for your input.

It seems that OMDS improved the behaviour after the E-M1III.
