I just bought a mint Olympus OM-D10 II and there is a setting that I can not figure out:

I am in M mode and use front and rear dials for S.S. and aperture, respectively. iso is manual as well. When I look at the rear display, it gets lighter or darker as I change the exposure. Howevee, when using the EVF, the lightness stays the same. What setting makes the EVF react to changes in exposure like the display does. Thx.

Check if you have "S-OVF" displayed in the viewfinder - if so you have the Optical Viewfinder simulation active. Refer to the manual page 108 for how to de-activate it.

Thanks Phil. But no, when setting S-OVF to Off, nothing changes in the OVF, but it results in the same effect on the display. I.e. display and OVF now behave the same, as I don't want either to.
Addendum: the histogram doesn't reCt either to changes in exposure while in M mode. How come? But when I set to A mode, everything works fine when S-OVF is set to Off.

So with which settings does M mode work to set exposure?

There are two functions that adjust exposure preview in this camera. The first, noted above, is S-OVF. The second is Live View Boost. If this is on, you won't get exposure preview in the EVF and the histogram won't be accurate.

Unlike S-OVF, Live View Boost is turned on selectively for different modes (that is, manual, bulb/time, live composite, and others). Go to Gears/D to Live View Boost, enter the sub-menu for this, and make sure that "manual shooting" is set to "Off."

(Note that "Live View Boost" was renamed "Night Vision" in the OM-1.)

Great Steven, found it and solved. I actually had to set all 4 settings on that sub-menu to Off to make it work. Many thanks!
