Next NX1 firmware update? (I'm impatient)

I guess I am impatient. I keep wondering where that next NX1 firmware is.

Spring kid's sports season is starting and improved C-AF would be helpful.

I'm with you 100%.

Now the nx500 has better af capabilities and lossy raw as an option.

So the low end camera has features that the top end one lacks.

I'm pretty sure we will have to wait till NAB starts. Samsung probably wants to counter other manufacturers releases with this firmware update. 4k crop mode, H.265 10bit 4.2.2 or 8 bit 4.2.2, 100% CAF improvement, AGC disabled, Nicer 1080p 120fps, 1080p or 720p 240fps, better timelapses control.

Samsung can do a lot with this camera.

What I would like to know, there's a eSATA port on the NX1, would it be possible to plug a Hard Drive to it, in order to use it as a massive storage for photo/videos/timelapses? If so, it would be very handy for a big production.

Knowing that the firmware is Linux-based, it opens even more room for third-party custom firmwares, I'd love to see what Magic Lantern Devs could do. There's a rumor that Samsung was communicating with them.

I think we might have another bugfix soon though.

Let's wait and see...

No there is no eSATA port.. it is a micro USB3 type B connector.

While I get people hear a rumour and want it now.. honestly I'm waiting on Remote Studio.. I have yet to hear of it or find a way to get it.

I'm really curious to try it.

But beyond that it will come when it comes.. but I get the impatience.

For a big production you have HDMI out.

For a production that is "big" you have Sd card slot. You can put a lot onto 256GB card.

there are now high-capacity SD cards and OTG devices which you can plug on the NX1. NX1 do nor have eSATA port but have SD port and micro-usb.

I think we all are at this moment, NX500 which has a less powerful processer chip is doing Lossless RAW Photos, has a 240fps mode in 720p mode (greyed at though), and from many reports is beating the NX1 in AF by a good amount...

So Im hoping that soon we will see all this but even better on the NX1 since its the flagship. Better AF like the Rumor said, Lossless Raw photos for clearing the buffer faster and making longer, Crop 4K for less Rolling shutter and more Tele. And 240fps in 1080p mode.

I would also like to see tracking mode be able for the EVF and fix the focus peaking to be better all around a few more colors would be great.

I quote 100%.

Now that you mention it, I'd like to be able to pick the color of focus peaking from a full rgb table.

What I would have liked to have seen on the NX1(or next NX) is a MSATA port to attach an internal SSD!! Forget UHS2! Samsung makes 1tb MSATA SSDs the size of a laptop wifi card. Thats smaller than Compact flash.

That'd indeed be a great feature. Endless buffer...

I hate to rain on you all's parade, but let's be honest. The NX1 isn't all it's cracked up to be. It isn't the "end all be all" of cameras some of you think it is. Apparently the camera has some serious physical chip and sensor design flaws that can NOT be corrected with firmware updates. If we were going to see an AF system that was better then many $100 camera, we would have seen it already. Go ahead and cry and get it out of your system. We have all been had.

I hope to be proven wrong. I bought into the hype too and don't like to be made a fool of. But let's start preparing ourselves for what may not be a pleasant realization ... this is about as good as it gets, plus perhaps a few cosmetic changes and minor feature Improvements and additions.

I know the Samsung worshippers are working to get me banned from DPReview, but that's fine. I just call it the way I see it.

so are you accusing reviewers (not just dpreview) of misleading people with their evaluation of the NX1?

Its funny you see it that way but please link us to your pro work and then we can talk. I as a pro sports photographer see amazing value of the NX1 and do believe it will get better then it will be followed up by the NX2 which will be just as game changing.

Dude take a chill pill.

seriously.. The NX1 does exactly what I expected it to. Low light AF and low contrast situations which has always been a Samsung weak area is a bit off. but beyond that I'm more than happy with it.

Honestly I'd just love to see Remote studio.

most of the people on this board will always complain.. doesn't matter what happens... before release it is the holy grail... after it is non stop complaints.

chill.

I was 80% unhappy with nx300. Now I'm 80% happy with nx1. That's a big step forward for me.

Then, if from 80 I can pass to 90 or 100%, through fw update, considering that the nx1 is the flagship I'll be...well...happier :-)

And since nx500 can already do better with a lower hw, then I say, why not?

Thats what Im saying, its like Samsung is teasing us in a way...I feel like they still have a few things up their sleeves.

One other thing is that they are letting people test the new 300mm lens, so maybe they are really pushing hard to get the best AF system they can and the NX500 just got a version of that...

Or they are learning as they go, developing auto focus algorithms while avoiding existing patents... It just might be that it takes time and they have added luxury of highly programmable hardware that enables them to release early and often, the Linux way ;)

We might think that NX1 is super important for samsung, but reality is that it probably generates less income than any of dozens of Android phones they release every few weeks and as such development (and design and testing and quality assurance and...) teams are quite likely minuscule when compared to other divisions.
